    When makaila bought and renovated her house I managed a bunch of the contractors and subs (in concert with a real general contractor who was in charge) - I had worked for a guy flipping houses for awhile years ago

    I had all the emergency shut off switches or valves or breakers placed in areas easy to access and easy to see or find - and had them use super reflective red and yellow striped tape (also glows in the dark) to highlight those devices

    I have taught the girls were they are located and how to turn them off - also hung up mini fire extinguishers at each control point

    Since I have worked as the safety officer or compliance officer at jobs for a long time it's kind of second nature and I am OCD about it

    We do walk around reviews and drills when you move the clocks forward and back - as well as change batteries in all detectors and monitors

    Yes they do.

    All residents should.
    Went on many a call where no one even knew there were shutoffs. [8)]

    Yes. She also knows how to fix most things too.[:X][;)][^]. The other week, she put a radiator in the expedition.

    For us older folks, include kids/ grandkids in that question. Right after grandson bought his first house, got a panic call. He was repairing a Delta type faucet in the bathtub, did not turn off water. Unscrewed cap and away she went.

    Talked him thru finding shutoff, loaned him my wet/dry shop vac and a portable dehumidifier. Real mess. We were talking during the pumping out phase- "Grandpa- I have seen this on TV shows- I didn't know it would really DO that!"

    Oh yeah- standard housewarming gift to ALL the youngsters- washing machine hoses with the stainless steel braid. If you have ever seen the mess from one of the rubber hoses turning loose, the cost of the GOOD hoses is cheap!

    I live in an igloo so we don't have any of those problems. Do have problems with penguins coming around and dunging around the ice house though.

    yes she knows we have a well so killing the power also takes care of it
    she even repaired a pvc water line one day while I was at work

    You know not always killing the power shuts off my water Not sure why but happens in the winter after a bunch of rain. Thinking that the water table is so high that after the pump stops it starts to siphon.

    I have now installed a shut off valve right after the pump.
