Seventeen year old little buddy died today.
He was the oldest of our dogs and hasn't been doing well for the past three days. He has been taking heart pills for about 3 months and his breathing hasn't been right for a while.....so we knew it was coming.
He was a white Pomeranian named Huggy Bear who weighed just under 10 pounds.
He was such a fun dog to have and has given us the best time throughout the years.
We were at Larry's parents and saw him heard a group of cows into a fence from a pasture one day....it was the funniest thing to see. He used to get out and run across the street and bark at the neighbors bull.....giving all he had to the bull that would just look down and try to smell him.
He chewed up at least $1000 in cables when he was a puppy.
He jumped out of TWO moving cars (rolling safely to a stop and never learning a lesson.)
He BRAZENLY flirted with every female dog that he could.
He never missed a chance to run behind our Golden and nip him on the balls (not even on his last day while on death's doorstep.)
He once attacked a dog that outweighed him by 100 pounds, having his internal organs exposed and spending two weeks at the vet getting sewed back together.....just to come home and try to attack that same dog when he recovered through the fence we had put up around his territory (or "Kingdom" as Huggy would have called it.)
He would go a year without peeing on a thing and then pick the most random object to tag.
He barked just to get the rest of his crew going....not because of any real reason....just to remind us all of the power he had to disrupt the peace at any given time.
He had the worst breath of any living thing that has ever walked this earth.
He was amazing!

I handled things pretty well when it happened. My son totally lost it because he was with him when it happened. He had just turned 6 years old when we got him and is now 21....he can't remember a day without this little guy in it.
We have other dogs, we have lost other dogs. I think its all the crazy stuff we have dealt with that makes this one so special. He seriously should have died more than a dozen times over some of the stupid mess this dog had done over the years.
It will be all the "Oh, do you remember when Huggy did this" stories that will make losing him so hard.
I don't know how Larry will sleep tonight without Huggy there to keep that little snuggle patch he picked each night warm.0 -
well 17 years was a good long run. many dogs don't live half as long.

I do feel your pain and heartbreak in the loss of your little buddy
every time we lose one it seems to be a little worse emotionally as we get older0 -

I can vividly recall the first bring home event with each of the 4 dogs - and the last day with the 3 who have passed on...
The ferrets are tough for me as you only get about 6 years with them

Just part of being a parent for a pet Kasey. Been there, done that, and cried a million tears....Know where you're at kiddo. You gave them the best life, and that's all they could've asked for..The loss is hard, but does get slightly better with time. Coming up on 1 year since I had to play God and put my lab down. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him...Hang in there, and well wishes sent.
