China is getting hammered

As I states earlier, the tariff dispute is like America getting hit on the thumb with a hammer. To the Chinese it is like getting both arms chopped off.

The malaise in Chinese equities contrasts with gains for global stocks. The MSCI All-Country World Index is up 21 percent since Nov. 27, 2014, while the S&P 500 Index has handed investors a 40 percent rally.

Trade tensions with the U.S. are exacerbating investor concern. With President Donald Trump telling aides to proceed with additional tariffs on Chinese products, the Chinese government is considering declining an offer of talks, according to a Wall Street Journal report, which cited officials with knowledge of the discussions.

A weaker yuan also makes the nation?s shares less appealing. China?s currency has fallen almost 7 percent since the end of March amid speculation the government was trying to counter the impact of U.S. tariffs.

    I'm for the tariffs because I understand them.
    The media is trying to panic the uninformed to generate pressure on the President to drop them.

    The tariffs, even the mere threat of tariffs, accomplishes just what Trump intends, better trade agreements for the US.
    It's his winning that the Liberals are upset about, not any minor hardship Americas must tolerate.

    It certainly is refreshing to finally have a president who stands up for America, understands how to negotiate deals, and isn't afraid to move against the grain of the media. Oh, and a president who s;pends his time working for the country instead of constantly taking lavish vacations at taxpayer expense.

    The PPI for steel increased by over 13% year to year as of August, 2018. Our costs for some steel products are up 20%.

    It adversely affects our competitiveness, particularly with international customers. While I cannot say for certain how much work it has cost us over the past 6 months, it would be na?ve to think that it has had no effect.

    I do not like tariffs because it is simply government taxing a behavior. I do not like it when a government taxes Dr. Pepper to dissuade be from buying it, and I do not like it when government taxes an imported product to dissuade me from buying it.

    We do not buy Chinese steel because of historic quality issues. I personally avoid buying anything made in China whenever possible.

    I don't need government to tell be to do this, but apparently there are many here who wish to have Washington DC make that decision for them.

    Hi Don, The reasoning behind the Trumps actions are good and bad. I will take him at his word that China is a global thief of technology, a cheat when it comes to trade equity and a COMMUNIST government that owns much of the production capacity in China.

    We want fair trade with them a somewhat equal playing field.

    A US company should not have to give the Chinese government trade secrets to gain permission to have an item made in China. Your company should be able to sell to China as easily as your Chinese competitor can sell here. I remember back in my punch tool selling days the lack of quality found in Chinese steel products, especially the specialty steels needed for tooling. US or Canadian steels were far superior and I am sure still are.

    My feeling is if other countries are taking advantage of us in trade we should use methods to force them to trade fair or eliminate trade with them. Actually international policies is one of the areas even Libitarians agree with Government activity isn't it?

    I agree! In order for USA to continue to be a world power, we must continue to be an economic power, and this money printing as our main export deal will only last so long before we have to flex some industrial might in order to provide for ourselves. Industrial might that we don't have right now because of the last six administrations.

    In the long run we will not be able to rely on steel from enemies. We need a strong domestic steel industry that may be costly in the short run, but will serve us well during the next world war. And should get more reasonably priced as more companies jump into the market to fulfill domestic demand for steel. The globalists want a weak America that cannot produce for itself so that they can destroy us. Trump is pushing in the right direction.
