    BRAVO!!!!..govt was trying to show its inflated authority in a long accepted practice....Flint Hills in eastern Kansas burns every year ...keeps some weeds and brush in check....while some city slickers screamed FOUL when smoke went across I-35 that was soon dismissed as a hazard drivers should use ordinary caution during that short time in the spring...if scheduled burns could be managed in forest grounds a % of these raging fires would be abated by the lack of voluminious fuel

    I don't know why they were prosecuted to begin with, it was a controlled burn. The forest service does controlled burns all the time. Controlled burns are very useful in controlling wildfires by burning off the excess fuels that ignite wildfires. And yet these guys go to jail for it?[V][V]

    I suspect the way the government mostly tolerates them but shows an uncooperative side every now and then suggests they are not making enough tax revenue and benefit to the local and state economy to justify the services they are consuming...

    ...or maybe some of the other things they do that you or I have never heard of skirt the law a little bit and the government gets a little hard nosed in an effort to keep them in line.

    But oppression it's not. They could send tanks and run them off the land but they don't. And it doesn't surprise me that someone got shot over the Malheuer standoff because they took an armed stand

    IIRC the guys who did the burn whom Ammon Bundy invoked as the provocation for his occupation did not support the occupation.
