Murdered Florida woman in Costa Rica
I know the area is beautiful and all(and cheap to go to) but why on earth would anyone, women especially, want to travel to a place that needs security at a dang bed & breakfast?
She even told friends it was "sketchy " before being brutally murdered by the security guard hired to protect the place.
I've always said I'm not traveling to Mexico or Central America, too much lawlessness for me.

People do crazy stupid things and kill themselves or get killed regularly, although it appears being "not very smart" coupled with "bad luck" in her case.

B&B owner/manager said that she was seen getting into a uber at 5:00 that morning with her luggage.
Perhaps he was just relaying what the security murderer told him, or perhaps there is more.
Not a fan of crap-hole countries. I would much rather deal with first world problems.0 -

I hardly think Costa Rica is a crap-hole country, and I have some experience there. Like anywhere, probably including some places in every state of the US. There are areas best avoided by non-locals. Parts of San Jose, like parts of DC, or NYC are not for tourists. There has been some theft reported in some of the Gulf coast resort areas. We travel in other parts of the country, looking at wildlife, birds and plants, photographing flowers and frogs and have never had a whiff of trouble, in fact the reverse has been true. People have been very friendly and helpful. We eat a local non-tourist restaurants, and drive around ourselves. Lots of ex-pats there too. Happy to say we are going back in March.0 -
Probably safer in Rica than in ANY large downtown area in any large city in the USA at say around 24:00 hours and beyond.. 0 -

Violent crimes and robberies per capita exceed those in the US.
Won't question that you know where to go and not to go, but I know that I won't be going at all.

Walk in some San Francisco neighborhoods, don't bend over to pickup a coin because it's probably a trap.[:D]0 -

friend of mine here has a wife in Costa Rica...she come here and he goes there about once a year...they have a decent home there .... 0 -

Wife and I occasionally watch "Wheel of Fortune". MANY trips are to these second rate countries[xx(]. Often thought would there be any liability there if someone got hurt? 0
