If anyone cares ....
CMP has assigned random numbers to the 17,000+ 1911 packets that were sent in. Those with the lowest numbers are being contacted to notify them and to get their payment information. Notifications are first by phone and started early this week.
Someone posted about getting a call and others on their Forum did not believe the poster but CMP confirmed on page 7 of the thread that calls are going out.

Appears less than 18000 packets were received. CMP has 8000 1911s and since the new federal fiscal year started October 1 they could get up to another 10,000 once the army approves of CMP's process, so highly possible everyone that sent in a packet this year could get one. No more order packets will be accepted until the orders received by the first deadline are filled.

I've never been disappointed with anything I got from CMP and see them selling for more on the auction side, and at gun shows, later.0 -
I am one of those that don't care. Times change and I understand that. These guns will be an overpriced bunch of semi scrap metal in my opinion.
In the late 1980's the Chinese military surplus was hitting America. I had a dealer license and was buying used SKS's for like $69 and about the same price for the broom handle Mausers that were very well used, but all was priced very right.
In spring of 1967 I was about to get drafted and was at the induction center in the twin city (I think Minneapolis) . After my physical I walked back to the car which was parked on the same block as an army surplus store. I decided to take a look and went in. Toward the back of the store at the base of a support pillar sat 2 cases of rifles, one on top of the other with the top one being open. The sign above them had an arrow pointing down and a price of $25 posted. I reached in and picked out a brand new still in cosmo 1903
rifle made by Remington.
Paid my $25 and took it home. That is how one should be able to buy our military surplus firearms.0 -

I considered it, but backed out at the last min.
