I bought an old rear engine Snapper mower with a 12 HP flathead Briggs engine.It did not run and the old guy I bought from said it needed a valve job.I pulled the head and one of the valve seats has came loose from the block.I was told to use a pointed punch and peen around the seat and it would be fine.Anybody done this and did the seat stay in after it ran for awhile?

    What engine compression is acceptable for older used 2-cycle engines ? Have been trying to get a Briggs 5 hp log splitter back on line as well as a Honda engine on a trash pump.

    Go to a Machine shop that specializes in engine rebuilds. They can machine and install an over-sized seat.

    Yep, and the cost would be minimal

    If its sloppy, machine shop. If a snug fit, peen it in. Done many, many of them.
