    I have been there, but not stationed there.

    I was at the stationed just outside Ansbach. That was 93-96.

    Never been there, but I was stationed at Gerszewski Barracks in Karlsruhe.

    One Downfall of being a Marine and Stationed most of the time on the west coast. Never got to Europe.

    I was in Kaiserslautern my first time over there, 82-85.

    It sure was different before the wall came down!

    Ider Oberstein Germany, 1962-1964. Strasburg France, 1964-1966. Both with Dad, and Family back in the day. (Three years, each location.)

    Then back to CONUS, Ft. Bliss, (El Paso, TX.)


    My Dad sold our snow sleds, when we left Europe. (We took a Cruise liner back to CONUS. I remember walking our Dachshunds on deck.) It snowed like a Beotch in El Paso, the first year we were there. We seemed to be the only kids in our neighborhood, without a sled.

    I was stationed in Bamberg in 1966-67 but my daughter was born in Nuremberg Hospital in 1967.

    I spent '66-'67 at Bien Hoa / Cam Rahn Bay

    I was in Berlin between 60 & 62. Went down to the border, the day they put the wall up. Quite a sight. The East Germans, first just had concertina wire, to mark the border. About every 5 yards behind the wire. Was an old W W II vet, with a PPSH submachine gun. Keeping the folks from escaping to West Berlin.

    Nothing like witnessing history, eh!

    For me it was the constant reminder that we were there to stop the godless hordes from pushing through the Fulda Gap.
