Trump took the easy way out. I wanted Barrett or Hardiman. Much more conservative.
Kavanaugh is on record as saying assault weapons bans are unconstitutional.
I'll take it.0 -
wasn't he bad guy with the 4 aces tattooed on his chest [:D][:D][:D]
in the old western with Lee Van-cleef "death rides a horse "
now the dems will have a crap party and do all they can to not vote or go completely against as they have promised0 -
So a little less of a fence sitter, eh? So basically another tie breaker. Either they find skeletons in the closets or number 2. 0 -

I wanted Hardiman too, but Kavanaugh is definitely a change from Kennedy. Had Kavanaugh been on the court when Heller was decided, rather than Kennedy, we wouldn't have had a watering down of Scalia's decision.
https://www.nationalreview.com/bench-memos/judge-kavanaughs-record-on-second-amendment-gun-rights/
"In Heller, the Supreme Court held that handguns ? the vast majority of which today are semi-automatic ? are constitutionally protected because they have not traditionally been banned and are in common use by law-abiding citizens. There is no meaningful or persuasive constitutional distinction between semi-automatic handguns and semiautomatic rifles. Semi-automatic rifles, like semi-automatic handguns, have not traditionally been banned and are in common use by law-abiding citizens for self-defense in the home, hunting, and other lawful uses. Moreover, semiautomatic handguns are used in connection with violent crimes far more than semi-automatic rifles are. It follows from Heller?s protection of semi-automatic handguns that semi-automatic rifles are also constitutionally protected and that D.C.?s ban on them is unconstitutional"
"D.C.?s registration requirement, which is significantly more stringent than any other federal or state gun law in the United States, is likewise unconstitutional. Heller and later McDonald said that regulations on the sale, possession, or use of guns are permissible if they are within the class of traditional, ?longstanding? gun regulations in the United States. Registration of all lawfully possessed guns ? as distinct from licensing of gun owners or mandatory record keeping by gun sellers ? has not traditionally been required in the United States and even today remains highly unusual. Under Heller?s history- and tradition-based test, D.C.?s registration requirement is therefore unconstitutional."
What we need to accomplish is ridding the law of the contrived term "assault weapon" as it's applied to semi-auto rifles, and the "longstanding law" foolishness. An unjust law that's been around a long time doesn't deserve to continue based on mere longevity. I don't recall a "grandfather clause" for any "Whites Only" signs, after all.0 -

That's was my reaction, he went with the more moderate of those being considered. I was hoping he'd pick someone from outside DC and the northeast.0 -
He must have lead a boring life to be nominated by TRUMP for SCOTUS.
Anyone finding out a LIBTARD has suffered a stroke over the nomination pleas post, need something to pick me up.0 -
pocohantas is on the warpath screaming at Trump's judge pic.....if he had chosen Jesus H Christ the demos would rise in wailing disagreement 0 -

The way the libs/communist/communists are carrying on, one would think the end of the world was at hand.
[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
The end of THEIR world I hope. The crybaby antics even before the announcement proves the left is an enemy of the USA0 -
Now if only we got a "red tide" in 2018 and the old hag resigns or dies maybe we can still get Hardiman

Kavanaugh is a lib. Another bad choice. Gorsuch is for open borders just like this clown. Kavanaugh's wife is pro illegal, go figure.
MAGA must mean put the tools in place to allow illegals full citizen right. Very disappointed.0 -
Brett Kavanaugh:
Good on gun rights.
Will defer to precedent on Roe v. Wade.
Will defer to precedent on happy marriage.
Unless your No. 1 progressive issue is gun control, then this is a pretty middle-of-the-line pick.0 -

...The dragnet ingested and stored for five years domestic phone call metadata for potential later use in intelligence investigations, but there was no evidence it ever helped foil a terror plot against the U.S.
Kavanaugh wrote that the dragnet collection did not constitute a ?search? under the Fourth Amendment, citing the third-party doctrine established by the Supreme Court's 1979 decision in Smith v. Maryland ? a common perspective among judges.
But he added that even if it was a ?search? under the Fourth Amendment, the government was allowed to take the records because it had a ?special need? in preventing terrorism, overriding the privacy interests of people whose records were taken without a warrant.
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said that Kavanaugh?s concurrence ?reflects a sweeping view of national security as an exception to core protections.?
?The concurrence is particularly notable because it is largely dicta,? Turley went on. "Kavanaugh went out of his way to position himself at the outer limits of executive power.
?Notably, it runs against the type of protective approach of recent cases like Carpenter,? he added, referring to a Supreme Court ruling from last month requiring a warrant for authorities to collect cellphone location data.
Seems to back big government over the individual in the case of warrant-less surveillance.
There will never be a perfect candidate, of course, and one would never expect Trump to select someone who stood firm for the individual over government.
All-in-all, it could be worse.0 -

and get the nomination through,, a mistake Obama made in his first 4 years with an ultimate loss of over 1000 Democratic positions in the federal / state offices.
OK, 6 to 3. Could be worse, Cliton President and 6 - 3 Left Leaners on SCOTUS.0 -
This guy may as well pack it in , and go home. The Libs are screaming that the world as we know it will cease to exist, and some of the Conservative groups are starting to say he's a Lib in disguise,...he lives in a Lib area,...his wife is a Lib, worse mistake Trump has made to date,........etc, etc.
Looking to me like Trump's gonna have to go back to the drawing board.0 -
