Hot Tubs
Whose got one, what did it cost you, brand name you might recommend and any advice before purchasing one.. Thanks as always ![;)]

One came with the new house. It is an old Jacuzzi that I have pretty much neglected since moving here a couple years ago. Don't think the previous home owners used it for quite a while before I bought the place. The leather covered hard top is now dry rotting away with splits exposing the Styrofoam center. I have no intentions of ever using this and am kind of at a loss about what to do!
An unused eyesore that I do not think anyone would like to take for free. The northern hillbilly in me keeps thinking about filling it up with good rich soil and planting tomato's.[:0]0 -

We use ours as a cool-tub in the summer. Keep the temp around 84 and take a dip to cool off.
It might be worth putting some TLC into it to see if it'll work out. if it's full, shock it hard, drain it (vac out the lines), scrub it out, use a hose to blow out the jet lines. Shop vac it out/clean. Fill with fresh water and give a bit of chlorine. You might find it worth a few hours of labor on a Saturday. The exterior (depending on finish, ours is a "trex" synthetic material) can be refinished and a new cover can be had for a couple hundred bucks.
Otherwise, if you're not wanting to mess with it, post it up for free on a local site and watch it disappear.0 -
As above, post it for free and it will be gone. Jacuzzi is out of business, I believe and parts are hard to come by. I am thinking about ditching mine as the "electronic brain" went out very early this year. Cost like another 500. for the second one now.
They can be great in the winter but just more work.0 -
I paid several thousand for ours. My wife used it a few time the first year. Then it's just me, which is no real fun. However, it does feel good to take a soak periodically... 0 -
Thanks for all of the reply's and advice. My main concern with mine is that it sits empty of water with a crap cover and the last time I opened it up, I noticed black mold along with the smell that goes with the mold. It has become a haven for tree frogs and the wasps seem to really like it as well.
It is mounted to a drop-off deck that is connected to my main deck in a private setting along the front of my home in the country.
Being a total stupedo about this entire system, I open up the access panel and see where it is connected to 220V wiring and have absolutely no wish to mix that with a bathtub! The breakers in my basement for it have never been activated by me.
Just one of the few features that I thought was cool before I bought the place and then the reality set in.0 -
Open your drain plug on the tub and that will keep most of the water out. Still will collect in the design of the tub. Rinse it out and drop some chlorine in the tub also. Just {elsewhere} it and it will be gone, another headache gone. 0 -
One came with the house we got.
Took $200 + to get it going. But only used it a few times.
Gave it to the guys putting up a new awning for us. He called and was mad that jets on one side didn't work.0 -
Be fun for gatherings where the tub is filled with ice and drinks.
If you're getting old get rid of it while you still can do the labor.0 -
Pools are fun when you're young. When you get old they're a maintenance headache. My Mom's house still has a large pool outback that my Dad had built for my sister when she was a youngster that's a pain in the rear. Mom is 87 now and doesn't use it and my sister who is 58 now used it one time last year. They still pay to have it taken care of because if they don't it'll end up looking like the pool at the motel on the TV show My name is Earl.
One of our neighbors in Knoxville filled his pool in with dirt and planted grass and scrubby.0 -
had mine since 2003 and only use it seasonally like a pool, I used mine for hydrotherapy in the beginning for rotator cuff but enjoyed it much. 0 -

Same here. I did all repairs and maintenance only to use it every now and then.

If you're dead set on 'maters. Could I interest you in to using the hot tub as a hydroponics set up? If the pump works and will circulate the water it's just the matter of using the water pump to push the water.
If you keep fish in the tub I suppose with enough fish they can fertilize the set up. Depending on how many 'mater plants you might have to over load the fish bio-mass.0
