I Was in an Alfred Hitchcock Movie!
Vertigo!
I got it on Monday.
In the shop eating lunch one moment, cutting donuts the next.
First thought was STROKE! But I wasn't getting the right indications. Touched my nose with both index fingers, sang a song, did everything okay.
After five minutes with no abatement, I called 911 and requested an ambulance. The volunteer fire department was the first on the scene and the tech had me squeeze his arms. Equal pressure so he said it wasn't a stroke.
Ambulance arrives and off we go! I had been to the doc Monday morning for INR (testing the blood for proper thinning) and all vitals were prefect or better.
At the ER, blood work, EKG, and a brain CAT scan showed everything normal. Doc says vertigo, gives me some dramamine less drousey, and kicks me out.
Follow up with my doc today "It happens. Lots of reasons".
My foot is all healed and I'm off antibiotics now, so I got another new experience and adventure.
Gotta tell you, it's no fun to be in a perpetual centrifuge. The only other thing that ever put me on my ass was a heart attack. Back to normal now Cokin' and jokin' so watching the heat and the booze now. I have a suspicion either or both of those had a hand in it.

Did they tell what kind of Vertigo you have? My Mom had it and she did an exercise to prevent it.
Be careful cause my Mom broke her wrist falling one time.0 -

Sam, they didn't tell me jack really. I read a bunch of stuff on the web Monday night. Calcium crystals are out. Maybe a middle ear infection, but I ate a clove of garlic Monday night and it's gone now if it was.
It hit me like a bolt out of the blue so a clot or constriction would be my guess, but the CAT scan was clear. I'll just watch myself for awhile.0 -

My Mom used a cane when hers was acting up, she used it more for balance than as a walking aid.
You mentioned an INR test are you on a blood thinner like Warfrin? Those can mess up your balance when mixed with other drugs like a beta blocker.0 -
If you fall and hit your head and are on blood thinners you might die or suffer brain damage.
Wearing a Football helmet might be the answer.[:D]0 -

Wondered why I saw photos of guys wearing padded pants in San Francisco. Some were padded on both sides. Hilly there, lots of chances for serious falls.

Did you know Coumadin (warfarin) is the main ingredient in some rat poisons? Yep, eat it, blood thins, they get thirsty, go look for water, hopefully outside and bleed to death.

I was driving down a 4 lane road. Everything was fine, then the world went off course. Couldn't see straight enough to steer the car, all most hit one. Went off the road into a ditch. Everything is going round and round. Doing deep breathing, I can breathe and my chest doesn't hurt....Stroke !!!! No, I can touch my nose. I can wiggle my toes...why can't I stop the world from going off track. Dialed 911.
Took me into ER. Lots of tests. After about 4 hours, sir you have Vertigo. All the test were OK, so why did I have Vertigo? It just sometimes happens. Don't ever want that ever again.0 -

Had a neighbor with the same type of thing only 8 hours, not overnight and the bill was $16,000.0 -

Well thanks everyone who gave personal experiences with this. It would have been invaluable to me to have had this knowledge prior to my episode.
I've got a date with Charon for a boat ride at some point in the future, that I know and don't fear it.
The fear is dying and not knowing the mechanics of why.
If this happens to anyone, they can run the stroke test and know what's going on. Vertigo is not going to kill you if you sit down and not crash. Remember all this stuff.

I have been fighting it for over a month. Had the same types of tests you had same results. Have appt. in August with ear doctor.0 -
I had an inner ear infection once. Couldn't stand, vomiting, one of the worst feelings ever, dizzy and off balance. I couldn't stand up and lying down everything was spinning. Had to get my MIL to drive me to the doctor. Took a day to get over. I know what you mean. 0 -
Had an incident at the local gun range. I didn't have my ear plugs in while I was walking up to the shack. Some boomer went off and made me freeze up like I took a punch to the head. I wouldn't say dizzy but I wasn't right. 0
