50 gallon system 2 is clean!!!
Man that was a chore. Going bare bottom for a total break down of the tank. It's been a while since I took a tank to the back patio for hosing down. My ghost plants really went buck wild from neglect and got heavy with growth. So it took me a while longer since I had to shift the ghost plants and I think I need to find a home for some. I'll do more re-arranging another time since I'm pooped.
I reckon in a few weeks as this tank re-cycles the last years babies can move in? I think there maybe 30/40 in that batch and this years batch in the 70's. Still got new clutches I need to get in couple of weeks and they're still breeding. So I may hit 150 or there abouts? So I may just let this years spawn have the 50 gallon? Last years are in the 40 so it's not much of a improvement.
Time for what's for supper and "My Name Is Earl" [:D]. They really need to bring that show back.

What kind of fish do you have? I have had aquariums pretty much my entire life. I love fish. Right now I have a 75 gallon Cichlid tank.

I had a 225 break in the wee hours of the morning, talk about fun times. Saltwater.

My wife decided she would like to raise a few guppies. She has 3 tanks with one housing a pair of fancy tailed gold fish.
I bought her one male and 4 female guppies about 2 months ago. I thought that the pet shop was a bit pricy, asking 6 bucks per fish. Not really knowing anything about the breed, it turned out that all the females were pregnant when I bought them![:0]
The 2nd tank now is home to at least 50 small fries and the adult tank for the 5 adult fish where the girls are again knocked up with swelling bellies!

I used to have fish tanks of all kinds including Koi ponds before we started moving around the country with my job. They're not something easy to move with so I eventually gave it up.
Starting out years ago there wasn't all that much info on marine fish and there was no Internet to go to so I managed to kill at least one fish of every breed of tropical fish known to man that swims in the oceans until I learned how to manage a marine tank. And those buggers were not cheap compared to fresh water fish back then.
Fresh water tanks were easy and pretty much took care of them selves if you had the right balance of plants and fish in the tank. Beginners always over load their tanks with fish or try to put fish in the tank before it's ready.
The fish were relaxing to look at. I set up a small salt water tank in my office at work one time. People that came in to discuss a problem or what ever would often times be sitting and starring at the fish instead of discussing what they came in for.
Since I've retired we still don't have any more fish tanks. We don't have any pets of any sort these days because we like being able to take off for a week or two at the spur of the moment without having animals to worry about.0 -
I saw my fish this morning when I got in and out of the ocean. Thousands of them swilling around bumping into my legs.[:)] 0 -
I started keeping fish when I was 10. Now have one 70 gallon tank with a musk turtle, smallest species in the US. I have one 26 gallon brass frame made in the late '20s which I will re-glass one day. Also a 2.5 gallon stainless steel from the '70s which I will also set up when we are traveling less. 0 -
Mercury - 125 has peacock cichlids of mixed variety. Females are hard to figure out since they pretty much look like all female peacocks. Stripes of dark grey and grey [:D].

Had a 55 did that on me once. After that I got rid of all glass tanks under 40 gallons.
Brookwood - I thought about guppies for the 50 gallon. I wanted Endler's they basically look like "feeder" guppies. There's a place kind a close to me in Santa Cruz but I never went to see. I started to have peacock babies so that was that.
What kind of $6 guppies did you get? Some super rare breed?
Smitty500mag - Taking off for 2 weeks ain't nothing. Back when I used to make Seattle runs I just topped off the tanks to full capacity and left. That included the 125 Reef at that time. Never had a loss.
He Dog - I do like those bronze slate bottom tanks of yester years. Better as a turtle tank than an aquarium. I suppose you could hang a filter off the side but tat takes away from the display.
There's a shop in Monterey where dude has one of those stainless steel tanks dry and in pristine condition. Don't know if it holds water but it's pretty and shiny. Don't remember if it's the slate bottom. I'll have to check next time.0 -

They were called "Tequila Sunrise" guppies. I suppose the pet shop owner could have just made the name up after a night on the town.[:D]
I am going to put a bug in my wife's ear about using the endless supply of new born fish to feed her fancy tailed gold fish.
The number of guppies has already exceeded suitable living conditions in the two tanks.0 -
$6 guppies are not the most expensive by far. 0 -
Brookwood - "Tequila Sunrise" guppies are kind a old breed. Used to remember selling them back in the '90s and not for $6 for a bred female. I could see a trio being sold for $6.00 but a pop. Maybe the owner had sentimental attachment [:D]?
Maybe you might ask dude if you could trade in some guppies for fish food or store credit?0
