Do you have Hughes Net internet service?
Most likely it is one of the worst providers out there, but it was the best choice (unfortunately) for our middle of nowhere location.
This morning I received an email supposedly from them, to upgrade my email account. It came complete with dire consequences if I didn't upgrade. I looked on their website and could not find a thing about the upgrade. It just looked too fishy to be real.
I was wondering if anyone else got this email.

We tried it...and cancelled almost immediately..it is horrible...since we cancelled it with in 30 days they cancelled our contract. We shipped the router back to them, they left the dish in my yard.
But living in the country there are few options for decent internet.0 -
I did not. 0 -

I've been with Hughes Net for the past 3+ years. I got an upgraded router\sat tuner about a year ago and have had no problems with their service. I had no other choices back then and now there is this new outfit that advertises constantly on the TV airwaves trying to take all rural business. I still have a few months left on my contract before I will check out the other option. 0 -
Didn't get the email but I have HughesNet. I have no other options, but I like it, no complaints, works as advertised all the time, never had a problem. Considering every mouse click travels 88,000 into space and back, pretty fricking amazing.
Everybody wants a faster connection, myself included.0 -
Thanks guys for confirming my suspicions.
My experience has been constant interruptions on downloads, 3-5 minutes to get to my emails, and other issues. We also bundled our phones in on the deal.
Hughes sold our phone number to every scammer out there. We get on average 7-8 robocalls and calls from fictitious numbers every day. I can't wait until our 3 year contract runs out. I think no internet would be better than this mess. [V][:(!]
For those of you that are happy with them, you don't know how lucky you are. [:0]0 -
I?m in the same situation as you. It?s nice having deer and wild turkey in the yard daily but internet and phone continues to be a problem.
I?m using Exede for satellite internet. Signal can be spotty during bad weather and it does run slow from time to time but it?s mostly there when we need it.
Phone service is a different story. I?m using Verizon Home Phone Connect, which is a wireless modem that your land line phone plugs into. Service used to be great but lately it has been awful. I suspect they oversold their service and the greater number of users has shrunk the service area. At least that?s the way they explained it to me when my Verizon wireless internet stopped working.
Our land lines here are pathetic. Half the time there is so much static on the land line, it?s not usable.
You said your phone service was through your satellite connection. Is that working OK for you? We have a data cap on our satellite internet service. Does your phone use a lot of data?0 -
We have a lot of wildlife up here too. Deer, fox, coyotes, turkeys, pheasants, coons, groundhogs, a crazy assortment of birds, and last but not least, we have a hog farm down the road. We learned a long time ago, that there are days when you close all the doors and windows and stay inside when they are mucking out the hog pens.
Our phone service was originally with Embark. We live on a road with 3 houses, and the phone lines were put in during the 1950's, and I don't think they were ever upgraded. It got so bad that we were without phone and internet service for over a month. That's when we kicked them to the curb and got Hughes net.
The phone service with Hughes is usable, as long as you can put up with the 4-5 second lag between speaking and them hearing you. And the scammers calling you. As far as phone data, we never use it to call out and we never answer the phone anymore, we just let it ring until the answering machine picks it up. So far we've only had one person leave a message. All of our outgoing calls are by cell phone.
We have a 10GB cap on data, and we really have to watch it towards the end of the month. We only get about 25-30% of the speed they say we should get, but even that was twice as much as we got with the phone company.0 -
We don?t have a hog farm close by but we do have an issue with bears and mountain lions killing our pets from time to time. We aren?t far from the border either so we do get our share of undocumented aliens coming through. (Illegals is too nice a term for these invading thieving freeloaders.) I guess it?s always something.
Thanks for the good info, Bubba Jr. I appreciate it. I didn?t realize there was such a lengthy lag time between transmitting and receiving when using the phone. That would make conversation difficult unless you used it like a two way radio by saying ?over? after each transmission.
We are on the fringe of cell phone reception here so using cell phone for outgoing calls like you do would not be an option for us unless we drive a few miles down the road to get a signal each time we want to call out.
Well, I?ll continue my quest for good service. If I find a good solution, I?ll post here to let you know about it.
Thanks again for your help.
Interesting. Something just changed the term I used to describe illegals to "undocumented aliens". I guess I was too politically incorrect.0
