School me series 80 Colts

Colt Series 80 1911a1 style guns.

I have shot plenty of Colt 1911 style guns Pre series 70, I have several series 70 guns, even a bunch of non Colt and Military guns made by Remington, Ithaca ect......

I know the Series 80 has some dohicky firing pin block. I have never shot one....


So does the trigger suck or is it harder to get a good trigger break?

will it take replacement parts?

or ugly

    Thanks for info look forward to seeing the pics.

    I am kind of looking around for a CC sized 1911 and I would like a Colt in steel or a LW would be ok.

    I see the Series 80's are much cheaper than the 70's so I was wondering if it because they suck or if its just so esoteric thing.

    This would be a knock around gun not a safe queen.

    My G. Madore built Series 80 1911 has an ingenious part he made that deactivates the firing pin block using the grip safety. The trigger operates just like a series 70. Too bad Madore died in 2004; he was a true artisan when it came to making a gun shoot.

    I bought a like nib colt ORM 1991A1 commander in .45acp from Kasey a couple of her auctions ago.

    I have 3 series 70, and 3 series 80s.

    Keep in mind, I?m not a bullseye shooter, but that 1991 commander from Kasey has the tightest fit, and the best trigger out of the six.

    Sorry I have a WWII production DCM / CMP model and a series 70 left in my collection.

    My third purpose built custom competition model is currently an active auction on GB.

    How hard is the shim to install? I have several old style pins and springs here in my parts bun.

    Can I polish it with Flitz and a polishing wheel?


    One last question Forge; Have you found the Series 80 as well made and reliable as the Series 70?

    If you look for the shims, you will note there are different thicknesses. You will need a set of 'feeler gauges' to determine the shim needed. A word to the wise, if the 'gap' is 0.065", do NOT buy the 0.065" shim. There has to be some clearance between moving parts.
