My Fun Weekend
Living in a small town has many advantages except when you want something. Yesterday, I was looking for either the mix or the ingredients for Trader Vic's MAI TAI. A good friend hooked me up with some Cuban and Nicaraguan rum. The Cuban, Havana Club, is the best rum I've ever put in my mouth.
I went to two grocery stores with no joy. Then I hit the state ABC store, the only liquor store in town. Didn't have the mix or the ingredients, but I did spy the Collins strawberry daiquiri mix. I got a bottle of it, then the Disaronno caught my eye.
I drank it in Napoli and Catania, Sicily in '78 and Cali in the '80's. I'll drink in Alabama in '18 too!
The glass holds one ice cube and about an ounce and a quarter of Disaronno. It's just about perfect for my taste. I got curious about the history and hit up the website. It's 500 years old and by extreme synchronicity was first presented to a student of my all time favorite historical figure Leonardo da Vinci.
The story below I copied from the Disaronno site, but this is my wisdom imparted to you the reader. Do not fear getting old. You have a lifetime of memories to draw upon for guidance, fun, experience, and the answers to Jeopardy questions. You will also discover answers to questions you never asked or were afraid to ask. I know I'm having a Helluva lot of fun right now composing this life hack. You will also come to find the little things, the simple things, bring you the greatest pleasure.

SO THE LEGEND BEGINS
The warm, sophisticated taste of DISARONNO has a lineage dating back to one of the most romantic and creative periods in Italian history ? the Renaissance. In 1525, the artist Bernardino Luini, a brilliant pupil of Leonardo da Vinci ? was commissioned to paint a fresco of the Madonna of the Miracles in Saronno (Madonna dei Miracoli in Saronno, where the Fresco is still displayed today).
A MUSE IS CHOSEN
To portray the Madonna, he chose a beautiful local innkeeper as his muse.
A SIMPLE GESTURE OF KINDNESS
As a mark of her gratitude, she prepared a special gift for the artist, namely, a flask full of an amber liqueur, fragrant and delicate. That is how the legend of DISARONNO arose: from a simple gesture of kindness and the unique handmade combination of secret ingredients.

Perhaps my tastes and experiences are not pedestrian enough for anyone to relate to? I did taste MD 2020 Once [:p]0 -
I gave up on drinks that require a pinky finger extended a long time ago. Only because I could not afford them any longer.
These days, all the lemons that life dishes in my direction get turned into lemonaide![:)][:p]0 -

I'm a rebel. I drink for the taste, not the status. That's why I could never understand people who drank scotch. That s#it tastes awful and the cheap basterd Scots won't buy anything good to drink. Mr. Austin nichols makes good whiskey I'll drink sometimes.
BTW: The only time I extend my pinky is if I'm drinking from a demitasse cup. [^]0 -
my pinky finger is fully extended, not crooked, bent or bended...so everyone will know i am of the socially best, even if i am suited, over or completely undressed...and if i can get my nose to point up for real, the gentry will see that i have a dose of snob appeal....and i may be downing a bucket of beer with a straw, the club members will gasp and stare in appreciative awe...knowing i really don't give a chit, if finishing with a burp and a glorious spit 0 -
Disaronno is okay. I remember those print ads of the '80s with Carol Alt were better [:p]. Hell next to Carol Alt anything's "okay".
Now me I like Frangelico. Basically hazelnut candy in booze form. Or Barenjagger "Original" and not Bourbon blend (it's okay just not right).0 -
I like a Gin and Tonic served in a large heavy glass beer stein, filled to the top. I need my pinkie finger to help hold it up, the thing is heavy when full! 0 -
My first taste of Disaronno ended with me getting off my London to NY flight nearly falling down drunk. Didn't have to pay a dime for a single drop of it either. The flight attendant had to have known I was Army, 'cause it sure as 'ell couldn't have been my looks. 0
