Snow in NC
Well here in Creedmore about 20 miles North of Raleigh we have 7" of snow.
It started about 0100 and its still coming down.
My BIL who lives about 5 miles from me went to work out at the gym this morning. He has a 2016 F150 4x4. Well he made there and on the way home he stopped to help a guy out. Thats when a Dodge hit his truck then a snow plow his them both.
I went to the scene to bring him home in my 84 Chevy CUCV 5/4 ton M1028. Its got a Detroit locker in the rear and a limited slip up front. I put about 500# of dirt in the bed yesterday with the front end loader.
His truck may be totaled, it has damage in the front and the bed is all messed up but we got it drive-able with a breaker bar to pull the fender off the tire and we changed out the tire that was flat. I had him follow me home cause he had no lights up front.
The NC State Trooper was super PO'ed. Especially when I showed up. He was mad anyone was out driving.

Stay safe man this is a lot of snow. I think we may get close to 10" before this is all done.
I just hope the power stays on. I have a generator but man I don't want to burn more propane than I am now. I got the wood stove going and its helping but man it is cold.0 -

It took some serious punishment especially the bed but it held up fairly well.
Its going to need a new bed, there is no way anyone could get that AL back where it should be. It will need a hood, grill and PS front quarter. Frame looks OK and there are a few scratches and dents in the back of the cab where the bed banged into it.0 -

Yep same here.
I just went out and measured the snow and its 8 1/4 inches on my deck railing.
Power is going out around us so I expect I will be on the generator by this evening...............thats going to make my Propane company happy[:0]0 -

We're up around 9" now. Just plowed my driveway for the third time. My lil mower can only handle 3-4" of snow at a time.0 -

Quick update;
We lost power yesterday for about 10 hrs, I ran the Generator the whole time(It will power the whole house H2O pump and heater).
I am about sick of Duke Energy. They must have spent 10 million dollars having some sorry ass tree service cut all the limbs around the power poles last month. The contractors rutted up my yard and left tree limbs and crap everywhere and it did no good.
I have lived in this area for 9 years and if there is ANY bad weather we loose power immediately. I am going to write Duke a letter and send them a bill for my propane to run my genset.
So anyway it melted some yesterday and now its snowing again. Its going down to the 20's tonight so it will freeze and will be a sheet of ice Tuesday morning.0 -
May as well hunker down 'til things get sorted out Sam, unless of course, ya have to clear the road or make an emergency cigar run. In all likelihood there are too many knuckleheads in their Prius (or similar) driving stupid, getting stuck and clogging up the roads. (Gotta admit though, it would be enjoyable to roll out in your big truck and cruise on by the idiots in the snow banks shaking your head and waving a middle digit while doing so.) 0 -
Chris I did just that. I was driving around and there was a woman that slid off the road in a dodge Charger. I had a chain and tow straps but there was no place to hook them up that would not damage the car.
Most of the time if someone wants me to pull them out I have them hook up the chain or strap, that way its on them if I damage the vehicle.
Some kid went by me hauling ass in a Jeep(New one), about 2 miles down the road he was in a ditch on its side and bent up good. I stopped and asked if he was ok he said yea so I see ya.........what an idiot he was doing at least 50 in ice and snow in the worse vehicle in ice and snow.0 -
You guys are a bunch of rookies!! One snow storm and the world is coming to an end. Hell with 7" of snow my 2 wheel drive S-10 does just fine with no weight in the back. Knowing how to drive in snow helps too, and no you don't drive like it's dry pavement.

Agree Sam, too many idiots fail to realize the 4WD/AWD may make ya "go" but don't do crap when you need to "whoa".
Good move on making the owners hook things up. You're the best thing since sliced bread until they get a mark on their car. I've handed a few boneheads a tow strap and watched them promptly wrap it around a shock or similar. During a big snow a couple years back a deputy had his Suburban buried in a snow bank. I was in the plow truck, handed him a strap and suggested he hook it up. (Yeah, he was one of the "shock absorber" guys.)Idiots abound.0 -

Jeeps are fine in Snow. But Ice my front wheel drive car is much safer and easier to drive. That short wheel base makes the jeep real twitchy on the road and that is not good when you are trying to be smooth and keep it on the road. Also remember me complaining about the damage a Semi does to the road.
Well on an Icy day it is worse. The groves their tires put in the road makes it real hard to drive in Ice.0 -
