By my count it has been 7 weeks since his statement.

That article is bull crap. This is not new news to anyone whose been paying attention.
BATF issued a proposed rule to ban bump stocks and only bump stocks. I read it and I posted about it. They followed the normal process for issuing new/revised federal regulations ..... proposed regulation, asked for comments, probably considered comments and now ready to issue final regulation.
Proposed rule did not mention binary triggers, belt loops or anything else, only bump stocks.
This is NOT Obama's phone and pen crap. This is a new/revised regulation issued by a federal agency, not Trump.
Yes, it's the beauracracy interpreting the law and changing a previous interpretation, but that's what the bureaucracy does and always has done.
When the final regulation is issued I'll read it and post a summary for anyone that cares. Most significant question if they ban them is what to do with the thousands that were bought when they were legal, are in the hands of law abiding citizens, and soon will be illegal to possess. Will there be a buy back? What are the details. The substance is always in the details. We'll see.
But to draw an analogy between this and Obama's phone and pen crap is rediculous.0 -
Exactly my thought, John. A friend of mine has a few bump stocks. What will happen with them (and him)? Will he turn them in to his friendly LEO or should I start saving bail/lawyer money for him? 0 -
I sold the two I had. I sold them the Friday night after the Vegas shooting at a local gun show and, uncharacteristically, I did VERY well. Timing is everything.
If you read the proposed, rule or my summary posted here, you could see the full ban coming. But most folks here were not interested in facts or details. Most posts were just bitching without substance. It was obvious bump stocks were going to be illegal to posses back in the spring.

Jeff, if your friend has some bumpstocks, I'd advise he sell them ASAP, like next gun show. Based on my reading of the proposed regulation it's 100% certain they will be illegal to posess.
I'm guessing he could sell them at the next gun show and do ok since Slidefire stopped production in what, May?
Maybe the final rule will provide for a buy back, but that's VERY uncertain. The proposed regulation asked for input on this issue. I'm guessing he could get more for them at the next gun show, than the the government will pay, if they pay anything at all.
In any case I'm figuring possession will be a felony. My advice is sell while he can.0 -

I don't really expect anything. If you look at the language he used, it's rather empty. He uses a few strong words, but it's mostly vague. There's nothing you can hold him to. "knocking out bump stocks" "final two or three weeks" "able to" "write out bump stocks"
None of those hold any meaning. No hard deadline. No hard action. Nothing...
He was probably stalling through the midterm election.0
