Have there ever been 2 college teams.....

that have so totally dominated college football over a four year period as Bama and Clemson??? I'm sure it would be easy to find one team that has dominated but two teams this dominate at the same time?? I can't think of who might have accomplished this in the past.

I'll go out on a limb and predict neither team will play in next years National Championship game.

    I think limiting the question to only four years will open up a number of debatable situations. I think the most significant thing during the last sixty plus years that Alabama has achieved is their dominance in college football over the past decade or so. I don't know where that places them in all time wins among other dominant programs for the past 100+ years, but that and stringing more national titles together than any other program during such a short time, has been astounding. That said...as long as the current playoff situation exists, Alabama should be in the top four mix most, if not all of the time. The only question is, how would they fare in a 16 team playoff, that pitted all teams against one another where the match-ups were drawn out of a hat. Either way, Bama should always be among the elite college football programs.

    I'm talking about two dominant teams at the same time, there have been many times a school will dominate for a while but 4 NC games in a row with Bama being in all 4 and Clemson in 3??? These two schools have really done the almost impossible the last 4 years!!

    the national championship was decided by vote of the bowl game winners prior to the playoff system in place now. what you are asking of 2 teams in a NC game is of a short list disregarding all other great teams. stacking the deck to get the answer you want.

    Yep, a team doesn't even have to win their conference to make the "playoffs". BS. Clemson and Alabama earned it this year at least.

    Between that and Nike pushing kapernick as their standard and also financing most major conference schools I not only quit the NFL I quit college football as well.

    I'm sure the sports world won't miss me, I am also sure I don't miss it.

    In 1890-1900 Harvard had a 103-12-3 record and Yale wasn't too far behind.

    Army was a power house in the early 1900's as was Navy too.

    But you are right Alabama has been a powerhouse for a long time.

    Agree with discusdad about the loaded question, whether it was intended or not.

    The big things that have happened over the past couple of decades that have brought us to this new playoff system where SEC and ACC teams dominate year in and year out are many, some of the more important ones are:

    The old system up to the BCS time were a guessing game that did not effectively pit the top teams against one another as it was geared to what I call incestuous relationships surrounding particular bowl games, the worst of which was the Rose Bowl as only two conferences were allowed eligibility for the greater part of its existence. Enter the playoff system that smaller collegiate institutions enjoy today that make a strong attempt to identify the legitimate national champion, and we can see why few people, on the whole, are satisfied with the present playoff system.

    Also, during the past twenty years we have seen a huge increase in the number of bigger, faster, stronger, and more football savvy players in the bigger conferences, and also in many FCS programs as well, particularly so in the past decade in the SEC and ACC. It is why SEC teams have dominated college football in the past decade, with the ACC making enormous progress where recruiting football talent and winning seasons for the past four years or so is concerned.

    Add to the above information the move to split-conferences while keeping a bye-week in the mix, coaches can play the current CFP system like a fiddle when planning their schedules for the future. And don't be fooled with the idea that the CFP and ESPN guys will give any credence whatsoever to playing top teams from other conferences when it comes to the SEC and, now the ACC, has gained the notoriety they have earned, because they won't...since their bigger, faster, stronger winning image in this respect is set in stone with these organizations, while the Big-10-, Big-12, and Pac-12 must schedule top opponents from other Power 5 conferences.

    All of which brings to mind the colleges that recruit four and five star players year end and year out make good coaches into great ones, IMO.
