Wood carving chisels?

My granddaughter is a master jeweler and wants to get into wood carving. She is very good with her hands and has produced some interesting pieces with just some knives. What are some quality brands of carving tools?

    I highly advise not to buy those expensive chisels in SETS!

    You will find that you only use one or two and most just collect dust.

    Buy the best quality you can find but just the ones that will work for your carving project.[;)]

    Maybe a medium priced set until she really knows which ones she uses most. And then the quality ones that she uses most[?]. And then there is the possibility her interest may fade?

    I wouldn't even know what good carving chisels made out of wood would be.

    Here?s a couple of rabbits she carved from cedar using a pocket knife. She drew the profile on a cedar block and I cut the profile with a coping saw.

    Hopefully Keith could lend his wisdom? I know that man knows how to carve excellent detail into wood...was just thinking about putting my carved grips back on my pistol.

    Good friend of mine is into wood carving - he joined a local club and picked up a lot of pointers in a short time. Brain picking is almost free, highly recommended, no need to make all of the mistakes yourself.

    but most of mine is done between several exacto type blades and flat carve chisels from 1/8 in to around 1/2 in along with a few small rounded gouges

    best i can offer is get a few medium size chisels of decent quality and see how they work for her
    from there she can probably tell what would work better in shape and size from what she is able to do with the first selection.

    like someone else stated, when i started way back in the '70's, i bought several cheap to expensive "sets" and ended up using just 1 or 2 from a selection of 6 - 12... most of the ones that just didnt work for me have slowly vanished
