Ever since the election the liars in the media and their so called experts have been blaming Trump in many ways too numerous to list for the dive. Outright lying to us and passing propaganda is sickening.

Neat to have a broker in the family. The real truth the stock market is diving is because people believe the DEMOCRAT controlled house is going to undo all Trumps economic policies and of course vote against any legislation which would improve business climate.

No doubt that's some/most of it. Personally couldn't understand why the market was down with NO BAD NEWS.

Fed rate up .25%. Not not good but economy didn't show signs id rampant growth or inflation, why the raise, not Obummer in office?

Ooops, seems a Fed Chairman said the Fed sees a slowdown in 2019. That and the rate rise seems to have started this "panic". [:D]

Good grief people,...the market was overvalued, it needed a correction. Might be done, but probably not totally. Nothing incredibly difficult to grasp is happening.

Corrections are healthy for the market, asset bubbles are not.

The market was overvalued to begin with, thanks to the Fed artificially keeping interest rates so low for so long.

We should have corrected a couple of years ago, but Trump's tax cuts added a bit of rocket fuel to the market and pushed it even higher.

The good news is that the lower the market goes, the more of an opportunity you have to catch something on sale.

Keep your head when everyone else is losing theres....buy fear and sell greed, and you'll have an opportunity to make a pile of money...at least thats what I've been told. [;)]

I agree completely. Set an asset allocation you are comfortable with and stay the course. Rebalance periodically to maintain your AA. If you want to go full Boglehead you can do this with only a three fund portfolio.

Corporations have piled on Billions of dollars of debt feeding at the trough of no interest money laid out by the Fed. Imagine the pain of rising rates?

Having acquired more companies using leverage and putting the over priced assets on the balance sheet as Goodwill. Imagine paying the payments on interest alone when revenues finally do drop in a recession?

Any idiot can make it look like they are making money if you can borrow freely but like any household or government eventually you have to actually pay the piper.

"Starter" housing at 300K, Automobiles selling with 72 months or longer financing (me thinks the 30 year mortgage will become a thing of the past as the need to extend payments out to 50 years becomes more prevalent). Two generations in debt to their eye balls with College debt on top of traditional consumer debts.

We are due a good cleansing IMO.

If a good cleaning is happening there are plenty of NEVER TRUMPERS and others to do the "dirty work".

This hate for Trump / America is over two years old. Like the saying goes,
IT'S HARD TO SOAR WITH THE EAGLES WHEN YOU'RE SURROUNDED BY TURKEYS.

Never Trumpers Fantasize About Tanking the U.S. Economy so GOP Backs Impeachment of Donald Trump

Never Trumper John Podhoretz, a contributing editor for the now-defunct Never Trump magazine the Weekly Standard, tweeted on Wednesday that he wondered whether the U.S. economy tanking would lead to President Donald Trump losing enough support from Republicans in Congress that he would be removed from office.

    Great plan.

You understand you can only write off tax percentage on the amount you lose, do you not?

You dig a pretty deep hole when you have to make up 80 cents on the dollar.

You can use "Tax Loss Harvesting" to offset some of your tax liability but you need to purchase back a similar asset at the same time you sell.

    https://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/taxgainlossharvesting.asp

    What is Tax-Loss Harvesting
Tax loss harvesting is the selling of securities at a loss to offset a capital gains tax liability. This strategy is typically employed to limit the recognition of short-term capital gains. Short-term capital gains are generally taxed at a higher federal income tax rate than long-term capital gains. However, the method may also offset long-term capital gains.

    BREAKING DOWN Tax-Loss Harvesting
Tax-loss harvesting is also known as "tax-loss selling." Usually, this strategy is implemented near the end of the calendar year but may happen at any time in a tax year. With tax-loss harvesting, an investment that has an unrealized loss is sold allowing a credit against any realized gains which occurred in the portfolio. The asset sold is then replaced with a similar asset to maintain the portfolio's asset allocation and expected risk and return levels.

For many investors, tax-loss harvesting is the most critical tool for reducing taxes. Although tax-loss harvesting cannot restore an investor to their previous position, it can lessen the severity of the loss. For example, a loss in the value of Security A could be sold to offset the increase in the price of Security B, thus eliminating the capital gains tax liability of Security B.

You're saying making money is a rip-off? Think of all that money given to you just because you live in the U.S. and are free to own "stuff", go ahead, give a little back, do you want to keep all of it.![:D]

Maybe check to see if you can pull something out of your hat. Read how to reduce your capital gains tax.
