thing [}:)][:D][:D][:D]

I got the tire shop to put a boot in that tractor tire I posted about.
wanted to get y'all's opinion on the gap in it,they seemed ok with it but im wondering if theres anything I can do to fill the gap to keep anything from getting in it and getting though the boot and putting a hole in the tube?

    It may be from a deer antler.

    Dad drove over one with a tractor tire just like that and in punctured it.

    I would try to find some type of rubber patch to put over the wound.

    doubt if any silicone would stay.... to big ?? maybe try pressure higher than normal ...fill it then let it down to normal and see ???

    Tazzer, I have seen guys in Siberia patch tires on their K-700's with rips in the tread and sidewall larger than that with a patch from a sidewall cut from another tire and bolted on using flat headed bolts covered by a heavy boot.
    They had to work with what they had and unbelievably it worked

    Poor people have poor ways.

    Did you send it out for a section repair? That needs a vulcanized patch or it is going to keep tearing.

    its been repaired with a large boot but i was just worried about the outer tearing aas you say but said it should hold

    I wouldn't worry about it, I had a tire on a forklift that I could pick up two pallets of heavyweight not lightweight block that had a split in the side that went almost from the rim to the tread that would separate about 6-inch when I put a load on it. It never did blow, and I drove it around like for probably 10-15 years. The only reason why I changed it was because the safety inspector on the job would not let me use my forklift with that tire on it...

    A Section repair will hold for the life of the tire. The boot is a big cold patch on the inside but does not vulcanize or fill the damaged area with fresh uncured rubber. When the section repair is done properly new rubber fills the rather HUGE hole you have and by the vulcanization process bonds new rubber to the old rubber.

    The boot repair you have now may hold a long time but only rubber will bind permanently to the edges of the damaged areas. I would try running as is and see how it works but as suggested the bolting a side wall out of a old tire over the damage may hold it to. That area gets a LOT of flex when under traction loads.

    i have used Goop for that same problem with great success. not sure you can still get it. i think they call it "something" 1000 now. Wallie world carries it.
