    i liked how he brought out that while the battle was still ongoing, the Seabees had repaired and enlarged the runways and received the first B-29 in distress. the principle mission of taking Iwo Jima. before the was ended over 2000 aircraft, 20,000 crewmen, utilised Iwo for emergency landings.

    I have heard that a SeaBee battalion,maybe 133 was almost completely wiped out taking Iwo Jima.

    The Japanese had a pretty low total survival rate of 1.02%. That number includes the Japanese captured alive because they were knocked unconscious or disabled. The rest had probably peed their pants and were hiding but probably wasn't more than .02%

    Of the 21,000 Japanese soldiers on Iwo Jima at the beginning of the battle, only 216 were taken prisoner, some of whom were captured because they had been knocked unconscious or otherwise disabled.

    Patton was right, I want you to remember that no buzzard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb buzzard die for his country.
