A Politically Incorrect Halloween Story

My politically-incorrect, but totally innocent Halloween story:

I was about 4 or 5 years old, and it was the Halloween season, so I was drawing and coloring a Halloween picture. I had drawn a ghost, a white amorphous shape with two black eyes. My Daddy was nearby, reading the paper. I asked him, "Daddy, what's the difference between a ghost and a spook?" I had drawn a ghost, and now I wanted to draw a spook.

Daddy didn't even look up from his paper. He said, "Spooks are black."

OK. Now I know what to do. I drew a black amorphous shape with two white eyes, and that was my spook.

I was several years into adulthood before I understood what my Daddy had meant.

    My first job was working for a ex prize fighter named Newsboy Gavras. He grew up in San Francisco and that's what he called them. He said he got the name because he use to sell newspapers and had to fight spooks everyday to keep his street corner.

    Heard it (what movie was it?) but it was used to describe CIA.

    Question. If a black dude joined CIA calling him "spook" would that be offensive in what way?

    Friend of mine named his dog Spook. He was chasing him around his neighborhood yelling SPOOK, SPOOK where are you you black SOB. He came around a corner and was face to face with four very large black guys. It was an awkward moment.
