If someone is threatened by force, an equal and opposite force is necessary to terminate the threat.

Was holding five people at gunpoint.

OBVIOUSLY, getting shot was an appropriate response by an opposing shooter.

Why the hell all the red tape to determine if it was appropriate or not!???

I wouldn't have given it a second thought... Shoot the SOB and be done with it.

My issue is that the officer MISSED his mark and the jackass is still alive. [}:)]

    Hope ya never have to take a shot, especially in a HR situation...it ain?t like TV I can assure you.
    No matter how ?justified? a situation is, the ?review? process can take well over a year. In our craphole the term for the document is a ?Declination Letter?. When I got dinged the last time, I never saw the guy and never got a shot off, I received a letter over a year and a half later stating that the state?s attorney ?...declined to prosecute me?. Nice huh? Welcome to law enforcement.

    Yep, what Sam said. Target down, hostages and officer got to go home. That makes it as good a day as could be expected.
    Sam, any idea if it was a torso hit or where? If he?s not at room temp it wasn?t in the ?T?...as you can testify I?m sure, depending on the circumstances, that can be a damn tough one to make.

    They had to air lift him on down to a hospital in Winston Salem . He probably won't be taking any more hostages anytime soon. [:)]

    Possibly, when things are going south fast, sometimes ya gotta take whatever target is available. Cross body COM .308?s and the related cavitation, etc, they create, tend not to leave many functional internals.

    He looks like a nice enough fella. Probably just needed money for the fall semester of graduate school. "transported by helicopter to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem". I wonder what that cost the taxpayers.
