Yep, fairly often in the courts. Seldom the drama of windows breaking, etc. though. Occasionally some fisticuffs, but it?s generally easier to just let them burn themselves out with their bluster and diatribes. (They do have rights to speak too-agree or not.) Then get on with things. If they ?cross the line? then it?s on. 0 -
Yes, you don't argue with them, if it's traffic stop and they refuse to provide their OL, or refuse to sign a summons they get a couple opportunities or they come out of the car and go to jail. Their goal is to engage in a debate, and we're not doing that. I've seen a couple talk themselves into jail time in court for trying the same thing with judges. The more experienced ones will back down because they've been dragged to jail before, but the young ones often learn the hard way. It seems like it was more of a thing about 10 years ago, we don't come in contact with them to often these days. 0 -

Years ago, I was riding with my son when stopped one. The guy had a homemade license plate, no proof of insurance and no DL, so my son wrote him a ticket for each violation. This guy was actually funny to listen to, but after my son explained that he could argue his case to a judge, but that he wasn't interested in his rant and he could either sign the citation or go to jail. Well he gave the guy three chances to sign and three times the guy loudly proclaimed that he was not going sign, so my son informed him he was under arrest and had him turn around to cuff him. Suddenly, this knothead starts yelling that he'll sign, but the kid told him he's going to jail and to jail we went with him going on and on about how he will sign.
When I asked my son later about this little episode, he said this was not his first go around with one of these folks and there was no way he would/could allow this guy to drive since he had no DL or insurance. Even if this character had signed, he would have to have someone with a DL and insurance drive his car, but since he had three chances to sign and was placed under arrest, it was too late.0 -
It's an extremely selfish ideology, they're usually doing one of a few things and trying to get away with it:
1) Do something with their property that isn't allowed by local laws; like start a junkyard, build or add on without permits, dump chemicals or oil onto the ground, etc. When they're caught, they claim the whole sovereign crap and ultimately end up in Court.
2) Get something for free; like their mortgage, car, someone else's money or property, etc. These are usually "sovereigns by circumstance" because their house is getting foreclosed on because they aren't paying the note or they decide that they don't want to pay a rising tax bill so they tell the IRS to go pound sand, etc. These guys usually lose their houses, credit, and can lose their freedom when they file a batch of wild deeds trying to tie a foreclosure or repossession up forever.
3) They're just a self-righteous a-hole and decide that they won't pay car reg fees, won't renew their driver licenses, etc. because they're pissed at the Government and they're "free men upon the land." They certainly do accept food stamps, general relief payments, and other forms of welfare from the "guv'ment" that they despise, but they feel that their rule of law is what applies not the rest of societies. These are the most dangerous ones that I've dealt with over the years, as many are long-time true believers who will strike out with fists or weapons when things aren't going their way.
I've seen these clowns get as many as 18 years for multiple counts of real estate fraud for filing false reconveyance deeds, etc. Other snake-oil salesmen made a mint at the Airport Sheraton seminars that sprung up during the real estate crisis back in the late 2000's from people who were promised "forensic mortgage audits" and "foreclosure rescues". Most of these dudes took a bunch of money from people who were desperate, then forged a bunch of paperwork and filed it. Most of the forgers ended up getting in legal trouble themselves.
Sadly, almost everyone who bought into these clown's stories lost both their money and their homes when none of their hocus-pocus worked.
I've been sued to the tune of 25 million dollars in Federal Court by disciples of a sovereign who were trying to get at me when I put him in prison for ripping off an 80 year old woman for $800,000.00 in a real estate investment scam. They followed the language and teachings of long-time (and oft incarcerated) sovereign tax hater David-Wynn:Miller in their court paperwork. Our County Counsel got their jibberish tossed out after three appearances in Federal Court.

I stopped one who had a fake license plate on his car. It was a close copy of a Ca plate but I figured it out.
He didn't want to pay his reg fees. I cited him and impounded his car. The following Christmas I got a Xmas card at the PD from him.
It had vulgar insults and a threat against my family.
I did a terrorist threats crime report and our detectives called him in for an interview where he denied any involvement.
I had turned the card over to our crime lab and they had got his thumb print off of it.
He finally admitted it and was convicted in court and went to jail for 9 months.
I had our detectives pass on to him that if I ever saw him on my property I would kill him. Never saw or heard from him again.0 -

I am not Leo but I have had several encounters with them,,They love living up in the backwoods around here.. My first encounter was at a National Forrest Rifle Range,,They talked like normal gun guys and convinced me to go to a meeting.. This Group was truly nuts and to be quite honest scared me just a little..I was glad to get the hell out of there.. We have a lot of colorful people living here in the Ozarks close to us..I have been to,, 2 polygamist compounds, A Black religious cult that almost everything they own is purple and the National HQ of the Knights of the KKK. When I was still working I did jobs at all of these places 0
