About the only thing accurate are the names of the King and Wallace.

There is really nothing historically accurate about the film, But it is a good movie.
I try not to judge actors too much because I find most of them totally narcissistic, ignorant and vapid they pretend to be someone else for a living.
The exception was John Wayne he played John Wayne in just about every movie weather he was a cowboy, Soldier, Law Officer or Ship Captain.0 -
I have no particular admiration for Mel Gibson though Mad Max was memorable, and I thought the patriot was a more entertaining not historically accurate movie than Braveheart. 0 -

I take movies and actors for what it is...entertaining or not.
I put actor's opinions about politics really low on my sense of
importance.
Think about this: Actors need a producer to supply the money, a
director to tell them where to stand, a writer to tell them what to say,
a makeup person to make them pretty, an agent to get them work.

It wouldn't have made a very dramatic scene if they showed the English Knights crossing the bridge single file only to be killed by Wallace's mob on the other side.
Also, if memory serves, Wallace wasn't defeated at Falkirk because he was betrayed, but because Edward just out generalled him.

Some movies are simply for entertainment, not a history lesson. John Wayne movies are a prime example and I love them. 0
