    Depends on use and locality.

    You can legally own a hammer and screwdriver to keep in the
    trunk of your car.

    Get caught climbing thru the back window of a jewelry store with them, and one of the charges against you will be "possession of burglary tools".

    A "solvent trap" is nothing but a threaded bushing. It happens to be threaded so that one end will screw into an oil filter, and the other end onto a threaded firearm barrel. Quite legal.

    Get caught with one attached to an oil filter, and used to reduce the sound of a firearm, you just got a new roomy for the next 10 yrs, lost your rights to EVER own a gun, along with all the money you have and your girlish laughter.


    Never met you, do not know you, but I can guarantee one thing- the Feds have more lawyers than you will. BAD idea. If you want a silencer, and they are legal in your state, just pony up and buy one. It is much cheaper than spending the next 10 yrs sharing a toilet with Muhamed or Bubba.

    I do not know this first hand as it would be illegal but I have been told they are very hard to use because an oil filter is so big around its next to impossible to aim the firearm..You can not see open sights over the filter and to use a scope you will need very high scope rings
