Top 25 Gun Companies 2016
Every year the NSSF compiles data for latest available year on things such as number of NICS checks performed, how many guns each company produced, and then breaks down those numbers and publishes it in there "Shooting Industry" magazine that pretty much all FFL holders get for free.
Here is the data from 2016, Remington was the top manufacturer for YEARS and then just a couple years ago Ruger took over the top spot, now Smith and Wesson took over the top with Ruger 2nd and Remington falling to 3rd. Interesting stuff, here is the table of the top 25:
It should be noted that this is only guns that were MADE in the U.S. For instance Glock is down on the list at 7th with 366,000 or so, but another table doesn't list the manufacturers but shows that there were 1.1 million pistols imported from Austria, the bulk of them being Glocks.
It is also blank behind Taurus in the Revolver column, there are ALOT of Taurus revolvers out there, it is possible they are included under Heritage but the article doesn't specify.

I noticed the list doesn't show lower receivers.
It would be interesting to see how many of those were made.0 -

WM Anderson above, 453,000 rifles, I'm sure 400,000 or so are those cheap $39.99 Anderson lowers you see everywhere.0
