The downside to teaching a lady about knives
So first with makaila and later with Mackenzie I passed on my like of and addiction to blades - mostly folding pocket knives and multi tools or cheaper EDC items possessing a blade edge
I did so previously with godsons and nieces whom seemed thankful and grateful or at least were normally interested on a hobby or life skill level - and they had all been through scouting in some form or camping and akido lessons
I have given both girls many lower budget folders from SMKW and other similar sources (for purses and pockets and back packs or day packs and other EDC homes) and the response or hobby / lifestyle adoption / skill adaptation has been positive and genuine
Both girls have original Gil hibben small fixed single piece throwers and basic scouting camping multi function folders - and the cricket obake as a small sized / small profile fixed blade single edge example
One prefers leatherman multi tools - the other prefers Gerber designs
Functional tools and as stated a hobbyist or lifestyle interest along the lines as most of us (male GB members - guys)
And that was - is fine and OK and rewarding and something that provided / allowed me some level of pride and contentment for passing on a skill and seeing it embraced or adopted
But now it's turned on me - Mackenzie wants one of my benchmade folders (a "piledriver" with green griptillion style scales - an old and early model)...
And they are both eyeing my smaller fixed single edged Al Mar pieces.
I can share a dog - they could use my toothbrush or drive one of my vehicles...
But not the benchmades and Al Mar's - I only have 3 examples from each manufacture - all of which are early production examples that are no longer made
When I am dead - OK they can go to the girls and the godsons and nieces
But hand off for now - get your own [:)][;)][V]
Surely some of you can see my point or have had similar experiences [:)]

I too am guilty of an obsession with knives!
When I was a kid, I couldn't get my hands on enough switch blades! They always fascinated me!
Now, I love beautiful hunting knives. Some custom, some with exotic handles like stag, ivory, oosik, sheep horn, Mother of Pearl, damascus blades, etc.
About 30 years ago a good friend gave me a Hubertus Lever Lock Stag Handled automatic camping knife with extra blades and even a cork screw! I've carried it hunting with me since. The spring broke once and I must have bought 12-15 various Hubertus knives while shopping for a new spring!
I also have a hard time walking past a beautiful gentleman's pocket knife, like a pen knife. Gold or sterling silver. I just missed a nice Schrade double blade automatic sterling Silver pocket knife that was just beautiful.
I'll have to count my knives some day!0 -
I think a new benchmade EDC folder similar to my piledriver named and marked model probably would spec out in the $200 to $600 range - I have no idea what a used original would bring
And the Al Mar fixed blade knives from the late 70's bring truly absurd prices if and when encountered
I bought a box lot of knives and bayonets from an estate sale back in the gunshop years (23 pieces I think) that had some real gems in it
I got mine for pennies on the dollar and could never afford to replace them - though you can get lucky like when I get as winning bidder here on what the GB seller described as an "unknown bayonet"
It was a marked and proofed unaltered and unsharpened Ross straight pull rifle bayonet that matched my rifle even down to rare US acceptance marks - I think I paid less then $20.00 as the only person who placed a bid on the auction
Prices on some items are insane
