VIC--veterans ID card---finally, I think
I applied (online) for the card on April 5 of this year. Status showing pending ever since. Yesterday, I finally got tired of waiting and sent an email.
Today, I received a reply which stated my service could not be verified eventho I had uploaded my DD214 when I applied. So, I sent another email with my same DD214 and my Honorable Discharge document.
Just received this: "Thank you for the inquiry. I located your application for the Veteran ID Card in the portal and after reviewing your application you are good to go, but right now we are having printer issues that prevent us from sending the cards out. I apologize for the inconvenience hopefully IT will fix the issue quickly. The application on your side will still show in the pending status but I have it flagged on our side as approved, so once the printer issue is fixed your card will be approved, which for now is the procedure.
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide estimated processing times due to the printer issue.
However, you will receive notification when the status of your request changes to ?Approved?, ?Sent to Printer? and again when? Mailed?.
Thank you for your service to our country, and your continued patience. You are not forgotten."
Probably will never see it.

a copy of the letter saying you were approved should be as good as the card, if you can get them to send one..... 0 -

It is this type of issue I bring up everytime I am speaking with a liberal who says we need single payer health care.

I did a little looking after seeing your response. It seems that the VIC is not a substitute for any official Veteran Identification, such has a VHIC or a Retired Military ID, and that you have pretty much summed up its use.
My first thought is was 'Why is the VA involved with this?", and then I discovered that instead of forcing the VA to improve its health care system, Congress, a few years ago decided to create something new for them to do as a way of 'honoring' us.0 -
Ive been getting the same response for probably a year! They say get in line. Its one hell of a long line. No help from anyone at VA or Tammy Baldwin. Shes a joke. 0 -
Yesterday I took my DD 214 to the Secretary of State(Hwy dept) and had a veterans endorsement added to my license. Very easy. Michigan 0 -
Wear one of these uniforms and start naming your medals off one-by-one. They'll give you the discount just to get rid of you. [:D]

Here in Charleston SC I have had nothing but excellent experience regarding VA healthcare.
When I was at the large hospital downtown it was obvious I was looking at the reader boards trying to locate the area for my test and a lady came up and inquired if she could help. When I showed her the appointment form she said "I'll walk you there".
Every single person I interacted with was respectful and nice.
I see the Doctor on time and my tests have been on time for the most part maybe a fifteen minute wait.
When they had a back up for an eye exam they offered to send me to a civilian doctor but I told them it wasn't that important I wasn't having any issues.
I had to have several different tests to try and diagnose a liver cyst and each time my Physician called me within hours after the test to update me on the status.
I couldn't pay a premium for better care, I only wish every Vets experience was as good.0 -
They got bombarded with applications and they weren't prepared. I finally got my card about a month ago so be patient. You are dealing with government employees, ya know. [:D] 0 -

Healthcare is a different animal. If you make over $37000 you do not qualify. If you do qualify they will give you an ID card within five minutes. If not tough rocks, go and wait. 0 -
Stopped by the local VA office today. No one waiting (or in the waiting room). Informed the lady that I needed two things. One: I lost my VA card. She made entries on the puter, asked for my DL, took my photo and informed me that I should receive a card within two weeks. Two: Informed her that I needed an appointment to have my eyes checked since I had an operation of both eyes about 5 months ago at Civilian hospital.
Within two minutes I had an appointment on the 18th of Sep.
Can't beat great service.
Think I will start getting my meds via the VA. Co-pay last week was $200.00 for three meds.0 -
It is my understanding, the VIC is for Veteran's healthcare.
For merchant's discounts the DD214 will suffice.
I have nothing but bad to say about the VA since they screwed me big time in the late 1970's.
Even if I wanted VA healthcare now, I make too much money to qualify. I have the finest health insurance money can buy as well as this forced medicare.
The sad part of all this is many vets have no other healthcare and must rely on the government to maintain the most valuable thing they will ever own - their health.
And in may cases their health was destroyed by the same government that now promises to provide them the best care.0 -

They are now issuing a VIC card specifically for veteran's discounts. I don't carry my DD-214 around with me. Besides, it has too much personal info on it they don't need.0
