Magnolia Cemetery Confederate Ghost Walk

Once a year here in Charleston SC for two days, got to enjoy it with some cool weather Saturday night. Glenn McConnell plays a part in it also.

If you are sensitive about your Northern heritage you won't enjoy it :)


When the actors asked our group if their were any Yankee spies I called out my wife from Rome NY and had her escorted to the firing squad :)

Being from Spotsylvania, Virgina I was a loyal Patriot :)

    surprised the PC whiners haven't tried to shut this down or destroy monuments ....those that would do this need to be shot on the spot

    One thing I would like to learn more about, they obviously pushed the war being about Slavery as not exactly valid. I have read the articles of Secession and they all seem to strongly indicate Slavery as the reason. I would like to learn more about it I find it hard to belive the average Southerner was willing to die for the Plantation owners right to own slaves anymore than I think kids today will go to fight in the Desert for oil.

    Oddly enough I have lived here all my adult life and never realized just how large this cemetery is. (Sort of our Arlington) I thought that perhaps one of the reasons no photos or cameras allowed was to protect those participating.

    Many make the mistake that secession equaled war. The primary reason most of the States in the Confederacy seceded was to preserve slavery. As you point out, this is obvious from the letters of secession. When Lincoln and the north decided that the freedom to secede from the United States did not exist, however, the reason for secession becomes unimportant, and it becomes a fight for freedom and self-governance.

    I would think that the average southerner could be convinced to fight for freedom and liberty, just as the average war fighter today could be convinced that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are for the safety and liberty of those of us here at home. The modern American seems to believe that he or she is more intelligent and better informed than were those Americans of the 1860's. I tend to think the opposite is true, and that those involved in the Southern Revolution were pretty much up to speed about what the war was all about.

    Thanks for the clarification, it makes sense. Like I said not all Northerners were going to go die to free the blacks they didn't like anyway and Not all Southerners could possibly have been fighting for Slavery.

    That said it is a shame the Southern hero's can't still be recognized as such!

    There were honorable men that fought and died for freedom and self-governance under the various Confederate Flags. No different than those that fought and died 8 decades earlier except, of course, that they lost.
