My First Double Barrel Shotgun
I was about 14 or 15 and i got a side by side shotgun for Christmas. I went deer hunting with it and killed a deer.
When i shot the gun both barrels went off. I told my Dad and he told me i must have put my finger on the front trigger and it slipped off and hit the back trigger.
When both barrels go off with double 00 buck it gets your attention.
My Dad and i went a few days later to the dump and shot some guns and he shot the gun with #8 shot and found out i was right. He got it fixed and told me that shooting 2 double 00 buck shot at 1 time must have hurt and i showed him my bruised shoulder.

I did cowboy action shooting. When I used a double barrel shotgun, I found that when pulling the front trigger, the trigger guard would slam into my middle finger. At the end of the match my finger was swollen. Some people would bend the guard, but I went to a 97 winchester and never looked back. 0 -

Did that with a 9.3x74R double rifle with both set triggers set! [:(]
OUCH!
I saw a program where a guy pulled the back trigger first on his 500 Nitro while shooting at an elephant and both barrels fired!
He was on his back, gun pointed straight up, eyes wide open with a blank stare!! Elephant was stone dead with 2 bullet holes side by side in his head!
Apparently the front trigger is much much lighter pull and should be pulled first.......0 -
I had an old side by side that when you pulled one trigger, both barrels went off and the action opened![:D] 0 -
a friend had a double barrel 10 ga we would pull both triggers (fire off both barrels just in case some one wants to be more technical [:D] ) just to punch our man card in the presence of of our buddies
my wife for almost 40 years had been mad at me over shooting we were shooting a 22 we had just married and she was wanting to join in in wasting ammo . i handed her a 12 ga mag during the process . ( I did not warn her I was a ass hat I know ) she pulled the trigger but did not have it braced against her shoulder it kicked back hurt her ( bad she tells me ) that was it just recent she will come out in the back yard and shoot the 22"s and a 9mm that is it nothing bigger when we are wasting ammo with friends and family ..0 -

I had a very old sxs 16 gauge side hammer shotgun that was made in Germany. It had mint Krupp barrels and was nitro proofed. The first time I shot it, front trigger first with the right barrel cocked, all went well with about a 3 Lb. trigger pull. I was of coarse ready with the butt of the gun snuggly against my right shoulder.
On the second shot, I did all the same but the back trigger was much more sensitive and the gun fired with nary a light touch. My shoulder wasn't quite ready and resulted in a big bruise.
Those light weight 16 er's sure do pack a wallup!![B)]0 -
A rite of passage for joining our Scout Troop (ripe old age of 9 or 10) was to shoot the Scoutmaster's single shot 10 Gauge.
No idea what type of load was chambered, but distinctly remember being knocked on my ass. I remember holding onto the shotgun, but frankly, that may be a memory I created to feel better about myself.0 -
My first FIL let me use a Davidson's 12 ga. double, one of those Spanish imports, and I took it squirrel hunting. First shot gave me a stout kick. I knew before I looked it was both barrels. I took it back and told him what happened and of course, I knew nothing, I pulled both triggers, etc. He loaded it and held it out with one hand and touched it off, (he was a big man, former Golden Gloves boxer, hardhat diver at Pearl Harbor). Yes, he wound up with his hand split between thumb and forefinger. I had to suppress a laugh. 0 -
My first SXS was bought in my 30s. Customer of mine said he was getting rid of some guns and asked if I needed a shotgun. Only $80. I figured for $80 I couldn't go wrong so I pulled out 4 $20s and he pulled out a pristine Stevens 311 12GA with 28" F/M chokes. I held back my excitement, said thank you and took it home. I showed my wife what I bought for $80 and she said "good job honey". So now, no matter what gun I buy I always tell her it was $80. [:D] 0
