Obtanium Disease
I think i have this and i do not know what to do about it. I need help and i do not know how to stop.
I have way, way, way more things than i need. I bought 6 sawzalls because they were a great deal. 100 dollars for 2 milwalkee sawzalls and 4 Dewalt sawzalls is a good deal but i probably had 6 at the house already.[:(]
I have so many tools people here would call me a liar if i admitted how much i have. When i can walk in the pawn shop and get all the hand tools i want for under 20 dollars its hard not to load up.
My daughter can not sell me anything or wait on me because im family. I will bring in a pizza or food every once in a while and they look out for me. LOL
Plus i was there when a customer went off and tried to cuss and threaten one of the ladies there and she hooks me up. My daughter the manager was off that day.
I have about 40 dress watches that are expensive and about 15 to 20 work watches. I read an article my friend sent me and i have 3 of the 10 most valuable Seiko watches made. Now i am starting to collect pocket watches.
I paid about 50 dollars each for them a few years ago.
Throw in my 6 gun cases and everything else that goes with that and i
have way to much crap.
I just have to stop buying things that i do not want or need.
Just because its a good deal does not mean i need to buy it. I need to stay strong. LOL[:(]

A handful of years ago, I bid and won an auction here, {went for dirt cheap}.
It was for 60 rounds of 6.5/284 ammo.
I never or wanted to own a 6.5/284 rifle.

i fiddled with pocket watches years ago and got a guide book and learned many interesting facts...back then there was a satellite tv channel that dealt in them and i bought a couple ...could not afford the fancy ones then or now...have two of my gr-dads.....friend had his dads multi color gold ruby jewel fancy one ...wow!! 0 -
I understand....I myself am materialistic. I wonder if it's because I grew up the youngest and had a neighbor friend growing up that got lots of nice things so i always felt I needed to compete. Every time I'd get a Christmas present or birthday present he'd end up getting something just a lil bit nicer, or atleast that's what I perceived. Being materialistic always leaves one dissatisfied.
I own several watches, asked for a nice watch for Christmas and I don't even wear watches....complete waste of money. I bought a brand new truck on New Years Eve...that I completely didn't need, because I already had a nearly new truck.
All this stuff will go dirt cheap someday...not that I have anyone to pass it on too anyways.0 -
Hoarder is the word you're looking for.
Helped clean out a friend's pop's joint. What that dude did was start on a project, stop and then go buy more tools to start another project even though the tools he needed was with the project he put on hold. Didn't wanna take the tools off that project so he bought more tools. Came a cross a ton of Harbor Freight cheapies.
Best flip those tools before leaving a burden for your people.0 -

Sounds to me like you have the "female shopping gene", the same one my wife and her sister have. They buy things they neither need or want, but only because it was ON SALE. Bumbest reason on earth to buy something.0 -

I'm a collector. My Father was a collector. My Uncle was a collector. My Grandfather was a saver. I'm also very sentimental towards personal items. So, I started with my own collection, added to it over the years with purchases or gifts from relatives, inheritance so to speak......I was born with the "Collectors gene".
Pocket watches, wrist watches, guns, knives, paintings, sculptures, decoys, duck calls, fishing rods, fishing reels, lures, compasses, traps, etc, etc, etc!
Then, I "add" to the "heirloom" items because while researching "this or that", I learn about a cooler "that and this"!!
It never stops!
I am lucky enough to have my 2 Grandfathers, 1 Great Grandfathers, and one Grandmothers pocket watches, from there it just grew and kept going! Certainly a natural progression over 40-50 years!
A good friend once gave me a beautiful Hubertus Lever lock "Springer hunting knife. I love that knife and always had/have it in my pocket while hunting, camping, or fishing. One day the spring broke. While searching for a replacement spring I learned of all the different variations of Hubertus Lever Locks! Well, 20-30 more Hubertus knives later here I am!! Not to mention similar Lever Locks like Mikov's!
Or other high quality automatic knives!
Don't even get me started on my introduction to Randall Knives and hand made custom hunting knives!
The other stuff? Let's just say I need a bigger den![:D]
A guy could spend his money on much much worse things than quality collectible trinkets![;)]0
