I-5 is shut down between Shasta Lake and Dunsmuir, "Delta Fire" burned 10,000 acres over night. Another one burning up by Grass Valley, just south of I-80. They get wind, and that'll get shut down too. 0 -

That one near Shasta could get real nasty. Some real rough terrain out there. Town of Dunsmur under Evacuation Orders.

Just looked at what they need to do. Backtrack to I-80 take that east till they get to 395 which is in Nevada at that point. Take it north till they get to 20 in Oregon.
But 395 is also closed to fire south of Nevada all the way to Bridgeport Calif.
Just noticed if I-80 closes forget going north till the fires are clear of the freeway. North on I-5 will be hard till they clear the semi's that were caught in the fire.

I know that area well, used to hunt there and west of it. Everything is straight up and down, couldn't imagine trying to fight a fire there. Use to be a beautiful area too.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - A grass fire shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Cottage Grove on Friday afternoon.
One southbound lane is now open.
The fire was reported to be just north of Cottage Grove, but is out now after burning around two acres, most of it on the west side of the freeway at the Gateway Blvd. area, South Lane Fire Dept. said.
A very small section of fire east of freeway is also out.
ODOT reported the fire was burning near the Middlefield Golf Course and North Regional Park.
Cottage Grove police told us it started at a truck stop. Firefighters planned to let it burn itself out.
The cause is unknown right now.
Both northbound lanes are open.0 -

On September 7, the California Department of Transportation said the closure will likely last until Sunday, September 9.
According to CalTrans, there is debris that still needs to be cleaned up and damaged areas need to be repaired. In addition, the fire is still burning very close to the highway. About 3,000 trees still pose a hazard.
Caltrans said they?ll continue to re-assess the situation on Sunday with hopes of re-opening the highway. But it wasn?t a guarantee.
Caltrans provided the following alternate routes:
For motorists traveling south on I-5 from Mt. Shasta: Take SR 89 to SR299. estimated to take three hours with grid-lock traffic speeds. Or, take southbound SR89 to westbound SR44 into Redding. Estimated to take up to two hours with moderate traveling speeds.
For motorists traveling north on I-5 from Redding: Take eastbound SR 299 to northbound SR89 then travelers may choose to take northbound SR89 to Mount Shasta. Estimated to take up to three hours with gridlock traffic speeds. Or, take eastbound SR 299 to northbound SR139 at Canby to westbound SR161 to Dorris, to southbound US 97 to Weed, and then back onto northbound I-5, an estimate of up to five hours and free flow traveling speeds.
Meanwhile, the Delta Fire burning north of Lake Shasta has grown to 24,000 acres and remains 0% contained.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, over 1,500 people are working to contain the fire.
Numerous structures are threatened and the Shasta County Sheriff?s Office has issued mandatory evacuations for people living along Interstate 5 from exit 707 to exit 714. In addition, the Trinity County Sheriff?s Office said residents of East Fork Road to Ramshorn Road east to the Shasta-Trinity County line need to evacuate.
Residents in and around the community of Dunsmuir were told by the Siskiyou County Sheriff?s Office they need to be prepared to evacuate.
Crews hope to completely contain the fire by September 22.0 -

The California Highway Patrol is now reporting that I 5 may be closed through the middle of the week of the 10th. There is significant damage that must be repaired and hazards secured.
It is taking as much as 5 hours to go from Mt. Shasta City to Redding via the Highway 89 / Highway 299 alternate route. CHP reports traffic in the afternoons and early evenings as extremely heavy. TRY to avoid travel through that area at those times.
Explore ALL possible alternate routes appropriate for your vehicle. For those in passenger vehicles, Highway 3 is a viable alternate route. BUT! Highway 3 is NOT an alternate for commercial vehicles. There are size limits. It is also very tough for vehicles pulling long length travel trailers and large RVs with long wheelbases.0 -

The only break those firefighters have is the Hirz fire has burned most of the fuel on the east side, and the Carr fire on the SW side.
Another one broke out last night on the NW end of Lake Berryessa. That's about the only part that hasn't been burned yet. They had to evacuate Pope Valley between Napa and Clear Lake.
Funny how the stories of illegals starting fires where pot is grown, get buried and hushed up. Even more so, their ties to the Mex drug cartels.0
