Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch

I'm not much of a whiskey drinker and a friend brought a bottle of this stuff over for the deer camp to go with the 100 proof Wild Turkey that we keep out there.

I'm interested in opinions.

    I've got a Glenfiddich Single Cask in the cabinet that is, IMO, an excellent whiskey.

    Drink at room temperature to fully enjoy.

    If you like it, have some more.

    If you do not like it, have something else. It's just whiskey, and we all have different tastes.

    Glenfiddich is fine stuff, but I'm no booze elitist. "Better" when it comes to whiskey is entirely in the mouth of the beholder. I think that higher proof does not mean better, for example. It just means drunker faster. But that's some people's yardstick, apparently.

    I'm also not necessarily a "single malt" elitist. It only means that the whiskey comes from a single distillery. It is still blended. I think blended whiskies tend to be more consistent, because they can draw from more than one distillery's product to achieve their preferred taste. My choice of whiskey is Famous Grouse.

    I like Glenfiddich. But like you said its not consistent I have had some that was not that great.

    They been pimping that "Glenfiddich Fire & Cane" hard. Trying to get teen drinkers like Red Stag did with their cough syrup [:D].

    If Glenlivet appeals to you, grumpygy, you may want to look at The GlenDronach Allaridice or Parliament.

    A wee bit spendy, but if you only have a couple of drinks a week (like I do), the cost is spread over a long period of time.

    i am with you Don. I have maybe 2-3 drinks a month so even the pricey stuff doesn't hurt because it lasts a long time

    Me too! First shot I had was 100 yr old, and I've been ruined for anything else.[:p]
    A long time lady friend travels there frequently. When I mentioned how good the shot was, said she would bring me a bottle home for my birthday. I laughed and told her she couldn't afford it. Turns out the people she stays with there, all work in the distillery, and they all have there own "private barrels" in the cellar.
    She brought me home a bottle of 50yr old, in a bottle with a 10yr label on it. BIL still can't figure out why my 10yr bottle tastes better than the one he brought over.[:)]
    Has anyone tried Penderyn Madeira? It's a Welsh single malt aged in Madeira wine casks. One of my boys tried some and said it was real good, but I can't find anyone that has it on the shelf. The critics are giving the renewed Welsh whisky industry good reviews, and say Scotland better step up their game if they want to keep up with them.
