Believe it or not many German artillery shells were designed - fused for an air burst detonation 12 yds + above the ground
Especially deadly and effective in wooded areas or forest area as it brought down a ton of wood splinters and shrapnel with it - killing way more troops than the shell fragments or charge itself
Impact explosion caused lots of damage but the treetop above ground bursts produced way more carnage and the results were more of an area deniment weapon
