Tapcon Or Ram Jet ?

I am placing a sub panel on the end of my house for a camper and my shop.

Which would hold better? I am thinking the ram jet might crack the brick.


I am planning on Tapcons.

    Tapcon hex headed screws, not the Phillips, and you'll be set. After drilling the hole put a dab of Simpson epoxy in there and then run your screw in. Even if you over-tighten it and start to strip the brick it'll hold when the epoxy sets up.

    I got the bolt head Tap Cons but i never thought of epoxy.

    Fasten to the mortar not the brick.

    Trust me. Holes in a mortar line are much easier to repair than holes in a brick. [;)]

    What he said up there ^^^. Use a Ramset, Hilti, Redhead or Remington powder tool to shoot a fastener into brick, brick shatters. Never shoot into brick or cast iron. Mortar, concrete, steel OK. Drill the surface with a masonry bit, set a shield in the hole, and you are done.


    Shoot into brick, the fastener CAN decide to leave unexpectedly, at high speed, odd angle. See also bullet wound.

    is your code enforcement going to allow mounting there and/or approve the sub panel?
    I would have thought a new service mounted on a pole or the shop building since you will need a separate ground system for each building as per electrical code.

    code also requires breaker panels must be mounted on wood back board when surface mounted on masonry surface.

    There is no such code as that. Mount it directly on the masonry.
