Veterans' Organizations
..I gift money to some outfits for Vets' organizations
but really don't know who's legit and actually using the
money to help.
..I always gave to Wounded Warriors until the scandal but now
I don't know. USO, VFW and others are sure bets. Recently, I got
the usual "free gifts" from Disabled Veterans National Foundation. Anyone know about them? Any other guidance from you folks on the
subject would be appreciated, as I appreciate you Vets....Thanks...tap

google sites labeled charity watch and such to get charity and organization ratings....WW, VFW, and ronald Mccdonald house are sure bets ...when wifes kids found out they were havin TRIPLETS they stayed a while at RMcD house at wichita in the final days for safety's sake ...FIRST RATE...now we have 99% natural identical triplet gals in college...tall, good lookin, smart, and WHEEE...be careful, lots of deals out there that actually almost nothing goes to those in need...one outfit had dumpers in cities for people to leave clothing in and such but all the stuff went into Oklahoma??? somewhere, cleaned and sorted, sold and the money all went into one guys pocket 0 -
..That's what I'm looking out for spasm. I have some favorites
like the Arbor Day Foundation, but I need to hear specifics
about the main stream Veterans' ones that I can choose to
either trust or not.0 -

our local VFW closed here a few years ago and had a sizeable bunch of crutches, wheel chairs, and such to lend out when needed...when wifes mom was in assisted living we got her a nice lift chair and upon her death left it there to help others...sometimes things like this close to home provide more benefit than X down the road 0 -

There are a lot of people on the local level pouring their hearts, and their own money, into helping Vets the best way they know how. Maybe speak to your local VFW about individuals/groups in your area needing volunteers or support.0 -

both times I have been in the pittsburg V/A hospital, for bypass and pulmonary embolism, about 8-10 days in intensive care, fisherhouse put my wife up no charge, it is a first class organization. don't have much to give on regular basis, but they are going to get a cut of my life insurance0 -

..I've seen that Mike Rowe cut. Pretty darn good. We don't have
a VFW in our nearest town but the American Legion gets my support.
You have a valid point about "keeping it local". There's a Veterans'
Home about six miles away and I found myself pushing wheelchairs
for them at a local airport that sponsored tours and flights in
vintage warbirds. To push some if those guys under the wings of a
B-29 was humbling.
..There was a busload of Vets and I had time to kill before my flight
in a Stearman, so I just asked if I could help in any way. They put
me, a stranger, to work right away. I hope I can mingle with them
again.0 -
I am the Adjutant for our American Legion Post.
We occasionally receive donations (checks) in our post office box with a letter of explanation from the donor. We always find a use for the money.
If you want to donate money to a veteran's organization, send them the money. Pretty simple actually.0 -
I'm a lifetime member of the VFW in Harlan, Iowa. The VFW and American legion both, help out just about any vet that needs it, and their families also. 0 -
Christmas time it's the Salvation Army, solid imo, Still give to the DAV, VFW, and our local pantry which I get food staples for. My little part but. 0 -

quiet spell. I'm all with you on the Salvation Army. VFW too,

The DAV is a great group and does more for vets than any other group.
I am a life member of DAV, Disabled American Veterans, They have helped me so much that the life membership was the least I could do.0 -

..One of our forum jumpers over in the Vietnam Vets' forum
showed me this site. The outfit I asked about spends 67%
of your donation on fundraising...mmmmm. Also, the tee-shirt
and tote bag are made in China. Of course that holds true
for all the NRA swag too.0 -
I see you've already done the research. The name alone raised a red flag for me, being so similar to Disabled American Veterans.
You can bet that a big chunk of that 67% of fundraising costs ends up in the pockets the people that run the program somehow.
A group calling itself "The Purple Heart Foundation" was soliciting locally and one of the volunteer college kids tried to tell me some of the money went to transporting vets to the VA Hospitals. I knew darn good and well that our local program is coordinated by the Legion, VFW, and Red Cross, and that these yahoos had nothing to do with it. I researched it and found the main thing they did was run a website that referred vets to VA and other programs and occasionally held events at Legion and VFW posts providing the same referral services in person.
I contacted the vet that ran the program, he threatened to sue me for libel/slander right off the bat. Eventually the Legion and VFW both got checks for $100 from them.0
