Losing another dog
Nine years ago an irresponsible g/f got a puppy. When we split up she was moving to a place she couldn't take a dog.
I was the only one to walk him anyway.
I taught him early to exercise by running alongside my bicycle.
When I moved in with my now wife, she had 6 or 8 rescue dogs and owed her vet a small fortune. No longer living a 2 blocks from the store my already overweight dog gained even more weight since I wasn't walking him while I went to get smokes (me, too).
The last vet visit they did x-rays and it's almost certain he has cancer. We're not paying $400 for ultra-sound; we may get it confirmed with a biopsy, but for sure no treatment other than palliative while we say goodbye to him.

I'm sorry to hear that Brother. My current dog, is my best friend. It's tough to lose them. They have a piece of your heart. (I know they do mine.)0 -

Henry, I?m sorry to hear about your dog?s condition. I hate to say it but usually when the Vet suspects cancer that?s what it turns out to be. For what it?s worth, in my opinion what you plan to do makes sense, but I?d rethink the biopsy.
A biopsy is more of a big deal than most of us think. It is a surgery with all the risks of any surgery followed by the discomfort of recovery. Since you have already decided not to treat the cancer if that?s what it is, I can?t see what you have to gain from a biopsy. You have the cost of the biopsy and the dog loses some of the days he probably has left. I would just pamper him as much as possible for the rest of his life. Of course I understand it?s your dog and you?ll have to do what you think is right.

Sorry to hear. I had a female last week that had a big tumor. She went downhill in a matter of days.
A return to the vet is not needed. If he's enjoying life, enjoy it with him.
When it gets to the point that he isn't, get him a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and take him somewhere peaceful to eat it. Sit there as long as you want talking about the years and fun you've had together.
When you're ready to end your friends suffering, put a small caliber bullet in his brain. They are out like a light with none of the terror the vet's shot gives them.

In my opinion, every Biopsy done to a person that I have known, ended up spreading the Cancer and they all died shortly after.

Been 11 months since I put my last one down for cancer. Dogs live day by day, so we gave Ranger one to really enjoy. A neighborhood party, and all of the cheeseburgers he could eat. Woke up the next morning and had him put down...Best thing that we could do for him. Remember, it's about the dog, and not the owner..It's a hard decision to make..Been there, and done that...Be strong for your buddy.. 0 -
I know that I should be dead anyway already - but I have had 6 biopsies in 12 months...
And while I fully expect the cancer to come back and kill me in an awful biblical book of job manner I don't see the biopsies as a factor in speeding me towards death.
Again I know statistics indicate I should be dead a dozen times over now I don't think the biopsies are speeding me demise or spreading cancers return.
I am pretty certain it's a standard practice to cut off samples abhorant growths on animals and have them tested to see if they are benign or malignant tumors.

My doggie Sparky got diagnosed with cancer of the spleen. Doc said we could do surgery but even if we did, he would live no more than 3 months.
Not gonna put my little boy through that surgery hell.
One week later my Sparky died. Two years ago and I can't get over it, I miss him so much.0 -
My dogs are equal to my immediate family members, it hurts my heart bad to lose one, memories never die. Best wishes on your little buddy.....and you. 0 -
Thanks for all the replies. I guess "biopsy" wasn't the right term. But there's some kind of test where the vet examines cells they can do. 0
