Its hard to believe they are legal.
With that length barrel it should good. I had a 10.5" barrel on my M4 for a while it was nice with a can. I went back to the standard length though.
I think I will join you. I have an AERO Pres lower I got a while ago just sitting in a box. I think I got it for $40.
I like this rear sight although I have a a few M4 carry handles laying around, they are kind of beat up tough.

I like that rear sight. DPMS used to sell one that was made in the USA for about $60. Now only Knights Armaments sells it @ $155.
I understand folks are cutting the GI carry handles to make those sights. Reading that thread on AR15.com those Chinese work good though.

I bought one of the PA-10s on Black Friday a couple years ago. The same 18" stainless upper and complete lower for $613 OTD. Hard to beat that and it's run three different heavy loads no issues and is accurate enough for me.0 -
Other than "just to have one", the little monsters have almost zero useful value. Far too loud and obnoxious to fire w/o ear protection(maybe 2x) so using one for most purposes is questionable.
I have 3 AR pistols(2x .223 and one 300AAC).
One .223, I took in on a trade 20 years ago from a guy who couldn't stand it anymore.
One .223, I bought cheap as a hedge in case the HPA actually made suppressors an OTC item.
If suppressors became easily transferable, I'd have a can pinned on each of the .223's(or just go with a KAK type arm brace).
The 300AAC is a "niche use" meeting the requirements for my state's "alternative methods" deer season.0 -
I was looking at ballistic tables and barrel length.
Looks like I can expect about a 350 fps drop in velocity vers a 16" barrel(10.5"=@2650fps).
That is significant at over 100yds.
While I like a 5.56 I think the 300AAC would be a better choice in a 10.5" barrel for terminal ballistics.

I have never played with an AR15 pistol and even though I ordered the kit and will order an Areo receiver to assemble it I still consider them pretty much toys. I may change my mind but I would much prefer one of my 16? barreled ar15s for any ?work?. 0 -

I believe they have more value than just a toy. Especially as a gun for vehicle use, I'd rather have a rifle caliber pistol than a pistol caliber handgun. I can conceal a loaded AR pistol, can't lawfully do the same with a rifle. They are louder, but the advances in linear comps makes a big difference in the direction that blast and concussion goes. If I could have afforded SBRs for my PD I'd have moved our 16s to 10.3-11.5" set ups.0 -

Like I said I had one for a while in Iraq. My Team was doing a lot of CQB and that is why we were using them with Suppressor. After a few months though they needed us back to what we were supposed to do, RISTA for SOCOM.
As stated they are not bad and are great in a Vehicle or tight quarters, but if you are shooting it out from one ridge to the other there are better choices.

Do you recall what round you were using over there? I'm reading 77gr SMK. I too plan to use it as a car gun. Being so short can shoot through the windshield if need be.0 -

I am VERY comfortable knowing my set up rides in a locked trunk in the back of my vehicle in the case of a "Get Home piece," if the SHTF. Better than a sharp stick to the eye.
I'm 33 miles from home at work. Very mountainous terrain, lots of AT back to the house. May take me a couple days, (backpack in same locked trunk.) but I won't be outgunned.0 -

I liked the British 5.56 round. It worked good in the gun. The penetrater is a little smaller and the velociety is a little lest but it is good ammo and we had a boatload of it. One down side it is a little dirtier.
I have used the Mk 262(Black hills) round which is a BTHP in 77 gr with good results but mostly in 14.5" M4 and a 20" DM rifle. Latter the army put out a bulletin against using the Brit ammo but me nor my team mates ever had a problem with it.
I think with this gun I will run Green tip ammo. Its not very accurate but it hits hard. If I had a choice I would likely use a 60-65 gr soft tip at 2650fps. I will do some experimenting and see If I can achieve that.

Get both. Have fun. My BLK pistol is 8.5" and my 5.56 is 10.5" with a linear brake on it. Both are a blast. In my area I have never taken a shot on anything past 200yds, most are well under 100.0 -
