    This is the third in a series of very nice M1s that I am selling from my personal collection:

    The stock shows a bit of "character", but is original USGI walnut and properly marked with the small-box (3/8") HRA stamp and non-serif P on the pistol grip. It is on a five day listing, so it closes on Sunday. This one is worth looking at.

    You mentioned the rifle is from H&R's first production run. How many production runs were there? Nice rifle by the way.

    There were two, or I suppose in actuality there were three. HRA's first contract began at 4.66 million and ended at 4.8 million. Their second contract began at 5,488,247 and ended at 5,793,847. The third contract was a "parts cleanup" of 400 rifles beginning at 6,034,330 to 6,034,729. Needless to say, the HRAs in the 6 million serial number range are nearly impossible to find. Other serial numbers which are scarce are the rifles in the 4.66 million range. Ricci had a nice one up for sale several months ago and did quite well. HRAs in the 5.4 million range are also very hard to find. I put two of them up for sale this year and I also did well.

    A serious HRA collector will want at least one rifle from each serial number block: 4.6, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, and we all dream of getting a 6 million! There are also sub categories such as rifles with LMR barrels instead of the usual HRA barrels, as well as three different (and quite distinct) stock markings. And it goes on from there!

    Sounds like when I was collecting Arisakas..One think there is one model, type, but there are SO many changes along the war it would kame your head spin.[B)]

    Mark, your rifle is 4793729 dated 6-54. Mine is 4788376 dated 7-54. Your serial is about 5,400 after mine but dated a month earlier. Common?

    Quite common with H&R who often had one or two months "lag" before installing the barrels which they produced. They also mixed in barrels produced by Line Materials (LMR) with no rhyme or reason.
