How can you find out if a full auto firearm was registered before the Gun Control law of 68?

  You can phone your local ATF office & ask to speak to an agent. You will need to give him identifying information about yourself & the firearm, & he will look it up for you.
  
  Of course, if it is not registered, you can expect to receive a visit from the fellas with the bulges in the cheap suits.

  National Firearms Act registrations are privileged tax information which means a private individual such as yourself cannot ask for any registration information. If the owner of the weapon is dead, the executor of his estate can make a request to the ATF to check its status. The rest unfolds as Neal has already said.
