    Got'er down so good job to the pilot but I wouldn't say he absolutely nailed it like the headline states he did. If people weren't hanging on they probably smacked their heads on the right side of the plane. It's amazing some of the winds these jets can land in, alot of times I am surprised they don't get diverted to a more favorable airport.

    Flying a little spam can in North Dakota we work alot on landing in crosswinds. I usually don't go up if the winds are above 15knots but in a pinch I landed with 22g28 70 degrees off the runway. Poor planning on my part, I flew back from Minnesota, a roughly 3 hr flight in the 172N, I knew there was going to be winds but I wasn't expecting to be that high. I actually did two go arounds before I was comfortable with the 3rd. I have a regional airport 40 miles south of my sleepy little airport that has 4 runways with one of them being 6500x100 and the other 5700x75 so thats my safety net if I ever can't get down on the one at home that is 4200x75.

    Yes, 40 kt crosswind is tough. Try 50+ kts at Midway Island or the Azores with nowhere else to go.

    bet that was a poop yer pants look out of a window and see yerself coming down to the runway at that angle....jeez

    I landed like that in Grand Junction CO years ago. Sitting in my seat I was looking down the runway. When we touched down the front of th plane shipped around. It was the roughest most violent landing I have ever been on.

    I liked watching that Bush Pilot show in Alaska not sure if they're still on. Landing all sideways until the tire hits the tarmac. "Flying Wild Alaska" had to google it.

    Looks like a landing we had in Minneapolis this summer. Bad thunderstorms we were in holding pattern for about an hour almost had to divert.

    Finally pilot said we got clearance to land but it will be bumpy. We were coming in sideways like the video everyone was almost in tears. Applause broke out after we we landed and slowed down.

    While it is not fun to land like that I told my wife I do not get concerned until the pilot sounds concerned.

    If anything is really going wrong the pilot is going to be the first to see it and feel it so he is going to do everything possible to make things work out.

    I have the highest admiration for pilots. But as a passenger, I always like the nose to be pointed the same direction as the runway goes when we land.

    I'd have admired that landing and probably been ok with it, but my wife would have made a mess in the cabin during it.

    That TU pilot did a superb job with that landing. One of the smoothest I have seen in those conditions.

    I flew my wife from John Wayne to North Las Vegas years ago to visit my mom. We were in a 172 Cessna. I landed on 30L in a hellasious crosswind. Almost dragged the left wingtip on the Rwy. It was a day with winds Vegas is notorious for.
