had greys and flyers as kids, first after i got married was a female fell from a hole in the gable
still pink, wife had me make up formula and nursed it along, she was on the phone with her sis feeding t when the eyes popped open

but it was a trip after that, would be reading the paper and reach for my coffee to fine back legs and tail sticking out of the cup

if she wasnt n her "house" at meal time she would make the circuit to everyones plate to see what they had and swipe a bite.

one of her "games" was nipping gently at a finger tip and you were supposed to say "ouch", from when she would be over anxious with the eyedropper when nursing and grab a finger

when i got home from work she would run up my leg to my shoulder and start chittering like she was telling me all about what happened while i was gone

Those are wonderful anecdotes. At least one person knows my stories about squirrels are true. Sandy would chew the dead skin off my hands and clean my nails. She was always curious about everything. She would tussle and play bite my hand. I'd roll her on her back to tickle her ribs. She would chatter up a storm when I did it.

She had her house in the shop. One morning I went in and didn't hear her hollaring. She was curled up in her house looking asleep. Rigor had set in so she had died sometime during the night in her sleep. I locked the door, sat down, and wept.

I can and do understand your words and the emotion.

Yesterday had to put down an old rescued Chihuahua whatever was his hard life before I got him was bad. I gave him a good four years and he was not as special as some I have had. I wept so did my lady friend and so did the tech the vet lady had a little sweat around her eyes

A full grown man weeps over the death of an animal is still a man those without emotion over an animal he has for considerable time is not in my mind full grown man.

When I was a kid a storm blew a tree over and a squirrel nest hit the ground. Mama squirrel was killed and we took in two baby squirrels. We had to feed them milk from a bottle.

We named them Frisky and Friendly. We had those squirrels for pets for a long time. Somewhere there is an 8mm film of Frisky sitting on my shoulder while I fed him scrambled eggs.

They were great pets! When they got to be about a year old, they started wandering off in the woods, and they remained around for years as outdoor/indoor pets. Some days we would see them and give them some bread to eat and they would come inside the house, then, wouldn't see them for a month. Don't know whatever became of Frisky and Friendly.
