I climbed The Ogre in the Seven Devils
The Ogre. 9,255 feet. The final ascent is from the opposite side than is seen here. This is the view from Upper Cannon Lake.
I started from Upper Cannon Lake 8,142 ft. elev. There is no marked or maintained path. From Upper Cannon head to the little lake above it. It has has no name of which I'm aware. Maybe Upper Cannon Pond, West? (there is another just to the east, not shown)
From there climb the shale to the saddle point.
My buddy Nate about 3/4ths the way up leg 2. (shown for some scale)
Didn't have a great pic between the saddle and the hog back, but this is close.
From the saddle, traverse the hog back. The rocks are razor sharp! My descent followed a loose shale path back down to the saddle and from there I followed the same path back down the rest of the way. Total elevation gain was about 1,113 ft. Not sure of the total distance hiked.
The summit! The pipe contained a log book you could sign. Some people wrote several pages (tldr!)

Yes, still using the Circuit. Love love love that pack. So comfortable. Two of the guys I hike with have Circuit packs and theirs are older models. They like the improvements that were made to the straps at the top. They used to both be female connections. Now they are male and female so you can strap them together as well as hook the side straps together.
During this particular climb, I basically turned it into a day pack to just carry some water a jacket and a few other basics and the pack cinched down very nicely.0 -

It was pretty rough on my shoes, yes. I also use trekking poles and now need new tips for them.0 -

I have applied for Idaho Bighorn sheep area 11 for a long time, the area you traversed is in the Southern part of that area.
Maybe I'll draw in the future and go have a look see at that country. I've looked in to it from vantage points from across the canyon on the Oregon side and off course driven , it the East side of it from Mcall to Riggins, rugged and beautiful.
Did you go in via Pollock?

No sheep but I did see some mt. goats. There are rumored to be some big horns in the area, but I didn't see any and can't say that I would be able to differentiate any of their tracks/sign from the goats. We drove up to windy saddle, hiked the loop trail south to the Cannon Lake trail turn off, then cut above Lower Cannon Lake bushwhacking and following the many cairns up to Upper Cannon.0 -

There are most definitely Bighorn sheep in the area, some of the biggest Rams taken in Idaho have been killed in the area 11 which encompasses Hells Canyon and the Seven Devils.
Like you commented on the abuse of your foot wear, guys that I know that have hunted and ridden it, say it will eat a new set of horseshoes /Mule shoes in no time. Some guys even add a little borium to extend the life of them when going in there.

As far as participation trophies go, I guess the BLM or Forest Service or some other agency gathers up the tube at the end of the open season and the log book is recorded/transcribed in the Idaho historical archives.0 -
