I am hurting today
Lady down the road called me. Her Husband is a good friend of mine and she is friends with my wife.
Well he is out of town and a tree fell down blocking their driveway.
I got down there and its a huge White Oak. The center was dead and the wind must have blown it over.
I hate cutting up trees that are all twisted and hung up on other trees.
But I wade in with my trusty Stihl 044...........I get most of it done and her driveway is clear when I am cutting a branch that is bent and it lets go knocking me on my ass off the tree, down a slope with cut up limbs and an 044 howling in my hands.
I hit the bar lock before I hit the ground but I hit my right elbow hard on a log and my right hip.
I am in some serious pain right now.
This like a bad PLF on a hard runway. I am considering pouring myself a drink and washing a few advil down.
I am not the man I was 10 years ago.
Ill let him split the wood and stack it I am done with it. I was considering trucking it home but I don't even want to look at it.

I went thru a similar event last year. Get yourself checked out. A small break can get alot worse if not treated promptly.

Just so you know....it doesn't get any easier.
I still do the things I used to do, but I do them much slower and safer. Healing takes longer when you get a few years on ya.

Sam, your presence of mind (bar lock, and knowing, sub-consciously, after falling out of all those aircraft, how to fall) probably saved ya even more pain/injury. Regardless, it sounds like ya took a pretty good hit. A taste of fine brown liquor may help ya some initially...careful with too many Advil and hooch, no need to have liver issues on top of everything else. Get the ice packs out too. If things don't let up in a day or so ya may want to have the doc look ya over.
Good man to be helping a neighbor like ya did.

I did a good PLF the problem was I didn't tuck in my elbows and I landed on a bunch of cut up logs. I only fell maybe 6 feet all told.
The saw was running with the bar locked and was on my chest bar pointed at the sky when I landed. I rolled right so I pushed the saw left/ It came out fine was sitting there at idle while I pulled my sorry ass up.
I almost took my Old 031 without a bar lock,glad I didn't.
I may go see my DR to check out my elbow. I would hate to think I broke it because it doesn't feel like that(I have broke a few bones). Its more like a really deep bruise which like a bad sprain, is almost worse.0 -

I pulled a similar stunt and wound up with tendonitis from my elbow to almost my wrist. Hurt like hell, went to the ER and they prescribed a weeks worth of steroids which helped until I got off them. It still is sore anytime I use my right arm. And that was early this spring. [B)] 0 -
...one good thing, after your abbreviated PLF, is that during/after ya reconnected once again with mother earth, nobody was shooting at you for a change!
So, what's the medicinal liquid prescription gonna be? Tullamore Dew, a good bourbon, or something out of a Mason jar?0 -

I took 2 aspirin and 2 advil, washed them down with a PBR and a shot of Curevo gold.
That tasted so good I took 2 more shots and another PBR. By 1600 I figure I will be back to normal;
Harder than superman's knees.

Sam... I feel for you. I just took a Hydrocodone after taking a fall this morning after tripping over a dog bowl. Took the fall on my arm and shoulder (which is titanium)? hurt like hell and it took awhile to get up ? I just hate it when I do stupid shxt. 0 -
Well I took a drink early and now I am a little loopy. Wife got home from work, I am on the back deck drinking and smoking a good cigar.
She says "how do you feel"?
I said drunk[:D] But my elbow feels better.
She just shook her head. She knows me too well. She wanted me to see the DR.....................I told her Dr Curevo told me to drink heavily and go to bed late[;)]
Man I feel every muscle, its like I am Back in selection.
I think I will cook a big steak and keep the tequila flowing.0 -

Those 044s are bout as good as you can get as I would hate for it to have been torn up. Hope you are feeling better.0 -
Chris the head is fine. Lots of water and vitamins before bed time. Then I got up at about 0300 and drank 2 glasses of OJ.
I got up this morning at 0645, toasted some bread and spread Peanut butter on the toast with some grape jelly..........washed it down with 2 glasses of milk.
I feel great.
Jl those 044 are great saws. Mine has a 24" bar. I have a 031AV with a 20", a 029 Farm Boss with a 20" and a MS170 with a 16". I also have an old Poulan 3400 from the early 80's with a Bow on it.
All run like new. I would say the 029 is the one I use the most. If I have big wood especially a hard wood like oak the 044 gets the nod.
I bought all of them used and rebuilt them back to new or at least newish. [;)]0 -

Excellent saws even down to the 3400. Those old Poulans are a little heavy, but are good saws.0 -

Sounds like you did pretty well all in all especially with a running Stihl.
My brother is 68 years old. His girlfriend owns a rental house. He likes to play hero for the girls.
He borrowed my limb cutting saw, the 8 foot fiberglass pole that extends out to 16 with a saw blade on the end. But he didn't tell me what he was using it for.
Turned out, there were some high limbs there, my dumb ass brother was standing as high as he could get on a 10 foot step ladder, had the pole saw extended to the max, and he is cutting limbs off of this tree.
And when I learned this, I said to him "You Dumb Ass! You are up there playing hero, that is very dangerous! It is a rental house if she can afford to keep up a rental she can afford to hire a tree surgeon to take care of this stuff."0
