Deputy in trouble
In Greene County, Ia., a car hit a trophy buck. The woman who struck the deer did not want the animal, so another motorist requested a transport tag from a deputy. The deputy refused, saying that only the person hitting the deer could get a tag.
Well, the guy who was turned down kept the carcass under surveillance and saw the deputy return and saw the antlers off for himself. The angry guy called the DNR, who confiscated the antlers from the deputy's home the next day and fined him.
I swear, there is something about big antlers that make some folks lose their minds!

The deputy got off easy.
Usually they confiscate the vehicle and gun(s) and the fines are in the 10s of thousands of dollars.
At least that is what happened down in Fremont county a couple of weeks ago. [:(!]0 -

In PA, if its considered a trophy rack, the violator pays a certain price per inch. It can get ugly quick. 0 -

Sounds like a silly law to me. One thing to kill an animal just to take the antlers, but if it's dead on the side of the road from a vehicle strike what does it matter? So if DOT removes the carcass to the dump, and a dump employee takes the antlers, is that a crime too?0 -
A couple years ago, we had a Game Warden shoot a trophy Buck on the Golf Course, in the evening before dark (when the place was always swarmed with Deer.)
Houses everywhere. (My Parents lived there.) Several calls were called in by witnesses. Guy was fired. I never heard what other penalty he received.
You can not make this stuff up. Stupid to say the least.0 -

Several years ago a Virginia State Trooper was busted shooting a bait deer set up by the Game Wardens. It was out in the middle of the pasture and the stupid ass stopped, in his marked police car and shot it out the window. Can't remember what happened to him, but knowing our game wardens he was criminally charged in addition to being fired.0 -

In Iowa, where the op story occuy, it is against the law. You get caught taking antlers from a deer, anywhere, you get in trouble0 -

Maybe so but IS A LAW and Barney is paid to enforce it. I hope he got fined 2X for his effort.0
