I always thought it came from their 60's "Ramcharger" race teams when they used a "Ram Tuned" engine.
There was one version with the carbs over the front wheels that was famous for it's power in a very narrow RPM range when the "Ram Tuning" was really effective.0 -

The first Dodge hemi engine (dating back to 1953) was called the 'Red Ram'.
How and why Ram became the name of the Dodge truck, I haven't a clue. I guess 'Power Wagon' was too much of a mouthful.
BTW, 'we' called the redesigned 'Ram' pickup (2nd generation 1994-2002) the T-300 (wheelbase) and the 'Minivan' the T-115.0 -

Those are the long Rams, they were designed to boost torque&hp in the passing range. They could be ordered on pretty much any big block Chrysler sold. They also had a 'shortram' version where the dividers between the intake runner were shorter. Those intakes are very rare and were designed to boost the torque&hp at a higher rpm.
The long Rams on a 383 (depending if it was a Dodge or DeSoto and year) produced 330, 345, and 350hp and 465 ftlbs verse 425 ftlbs on a 383 4bbl motor.
Later when Chrysler introduced the 413/426 Max wedge motors they came with a crossram. The crossram was basically just a tunnelram laid down for hood clearance.0 -

The high performance models had two carburetors mounted side by side and the ads touted the "ram effect" making power. We bought a new Ram 1500 quad cab in 2015 from Dave Smith, $28,500 bramd new off the lot. Ford can?t even come close to that.
It?s not a matter of affording a Ford, I refuse to pay rediculous amounts of money for a damn pickup truck, same thing with Harleys, way way overpriced.0 -

The use of 'Ram' hearkens back to the Dodge Brothers and was used on Dodge trucks from 1932 to 1954.

I have a friend who's a devout "MOPAR-aholic". This guy can quote MOPAR trivia like a preacher quotes scriptures. I was totally surprised when his wife bought a Ford(and still lives in his house).
We went elk hunting last year and drove his "RAM" and I can honestly say I'm darned glad I didn't buy one in 2016 as I'd planned.
The steering is twitchy and the accelerator is impossible to manage. The best way to keep the thing under control is brace elbows against some area of the interior to reduce the steering wobble and use the cruise control as much as possible. The MPG was disappointing for the most part although I did clock a high of 19.6 mpg.
Just for reference, my 04 Chevy 5.3 gives me nearly that driving 2 lanes and gravel roads in hilly country. No "Dodging" for me and I don't intend to get "Rammed" either.0
