Stop by the nursing home and check out their tree

I know of at least two nursing homes that have trees in their lobbies with the residents "wishes" hanging on them.

My mother is in a place right now getting rehabilitation.....but its looking like she will be staying there as a resident because its not looking like she will be able to stay by herself. So, I've been going up there pretty regularly.

I noticed a tree in the lobby with little notes on it. I loved what I found when I got a bit closer. They had a code on each card instead of their name, shirt size, pants size, things like "socks only" along with a note of what they wanted.

One of the notes was a male that wanted REAL FOOD. That got a chuckle. The tree was covered in wishes and it seems not a lot of people had taken many of the cards off the tree. So, I grabbed a dozen and I'm going to fill these orders in a bit.

Things like a nightgown......hat and scarf.....a woman wanted an Alabama item (so my daughter is making her a blanket.)

I've picked up a PILE of stuff from the dollar tree along with a ton of gift bags to sort out and I'll give the nurse station this to give out to people so everyone gets something. Its hairbrushes, notebooks, pens, markers, large print word search books, soft peppermint, nothing major.....but it might be fun to get a bag of something.

So, if you guys are looking for something to make you feel good about the world just drop by a nursing home and ask if they have a wish tree. The tree I saw was mostly filed with requests that wouldn't cost much at all (one guy did want a TV though.)

    You guys are sweet. I'm not looking for any kudos.....I just didn't think about these things being at a nursing home.

    I had always seen the kids trees wishing for things like clothes, game systems, and such. When I saw the nursing home tree I didn't think about how simple the requests were going to be.......like socks....someone is asking for socks as a Christmas wish. I just about lost it while reading the tags on the tree. The funny ones kept me from breaking into tears.

    When I get done with today's work day I'm going to run over and pick up some of these things and drop off the bags I've fixed. If I think I can swing it I'll grab some more tags off the tree while I'm there.

    I imagine that there are trees like this at most of the nursing homes.....so it would be a good project for anyone that is looking for someone to cheer up this Christmas.

    bring a cat or kitten a puppy or dog to brighten up the lives of people who have no choice but to live in a home.

    One of our local businesses does a similar thing for an orphanage and I had the privilege of buying a first bike and gear for a five year old.
    Never thought about nursing homes before but now I will.
