Probably the "Rooster Comb" injections. I was offered these but had both knees scoped instead. 5 years now and so far so good. Went in once for cortisone on both, but no biggy.

Wife had Both Knees replaced at the same time, she was 53.

She went though it all, Cortisone, Chicken head shot, Braces and TIMS.

Replacement stopped all the pain and she is go to go now. Every once in a while she has pain 2-5 ranges but we put the ice packs on and do some exercises and she is good to go.

FWiw she could not sleep she was in so much pain, now its much better.

    Don't wait too long.

    Good luck

Probably the hyaluronic acid injection set. My mother has had them a couple of rounds, and they help her greatly for awhile .

Of course it's not a fix, and will slowly quit working.

I've had them a few times. I tried synvisc one (not sure of the spelling) and Supartz. The first brand was a single injection the second was a series of either 3 or 5 shots. I had mixed results with the Synvisc but extremely good results with the Supartz (5 shots). In fact the last time I had one of these shots was over 2 1/2 years ago and its still fine. Thats not to say your results will be the same. My knee was so soar and stiff I had a very difficult time trying to get started when riding a bike as well as getting my leg in the car. I had to grab my pant leg in order to get my leg in the car. I would try one of these shots before I would opt for a surgery. That to me is a last resort.

The hyaluronic acid injections are exactly what the Doctor suggested since the Cortisone doesn't last more than 4 to 6 weeks so I will probably give them a go.

At 85 and with the loss of strength and stamina from prostate cancer treatments, surgery will only be my choice if the alternative is a wheel chair...the surgery is a piece of cake, but the rehab will require strength, stamina and a high pain threshold...been there, done that...both shoulders are titanium.

Mark1301...how long did the treatments last before she had to redo them?

I've had the shots in my shoulders and elbows in the past and it's just a temporary relief and it's actually not all that much of a relief. It helps for a few days and then it's back to the same old crap. I don't even bother anymore.

I've got pain in just about all of my joints and I just live with it. My knees and wrists are giving me a fit today. Tomorrow it'll probably be them plus my shoulders again. Every morning is a new adventure. Welcome to old age.

I had them twice, something called Orthovisc that replaced the rooster comb material. It helps, but doesnt heal, it will last six to ten months. I have bone on bone in both knees. Gonna have to replace them I guess, but the shots keep me going.

IIRC, the first time she got right at a year, and now it has been around nine months and I just heard her start complaining about her knees again a couple of weeks ago.

A friend of hers had the same injections, by the same doctor, and got less than six months out of them. She has since gone the partial replacement route.

It seems to be a treatment option that has a very different response depending upon the person. They appear to be virtually harmless, so you may as well give it a shot, and see what happens.

I had both knees replaced last Dec. I had the left one done first and the right 2 weeks later.

Nothing worked for me. Cortisone and the rooster comb shots both would last 1 or 2 days.

My knees are 90% + better. They would be 100% better but i have not gave them enough time to heal yet. The doctor assured me that by doing to much it will not mess anything up.

I saw a doctor about getting my knee scoped and he told me sorry there is nothing to scope.[:(]

One thing that is important that i have not read yet is how important rehab is. The more rehab you have and the sooner you have it is VERY important.

Cortisone did exactly nothing for me. I was walking bone on bone, and rejected additional suggestions of temporary treatments, because they were aimed at pain management while the bone continued to be further damaged. I went straight to replacement. The keys are the right surgeon and a good physical therapist. Then working hard at the therapy to recover as much as possible of your range of motion and strength.

I've had cortisone and the series of shots, but neither of those worked well for me. I just had this stuff in my right knee in Feb and am still going strong. It was a single injection.

I had both knees replaced about 10 years ago and recovery was slow because they waited so long after I was "bone on bone" that I was walking without using my calves and they got stiff and getting them loose again has taken time.

When my shoulder started to go bad we tried one series of shots but it was obvious that shoulder was shot so I'm now a three-time android[:D]
